Hello from Ottawa, Canada

Hello to all forum members. I just got my Thermomix yesterday after having attended a demo. I used it this morning to cook................wait for it...................oatmeal. I couldn't find cooking instructions for this anywhere so I just pretended to know what I was doing and cooked it at 100 speed 1 using the reverse blade. By mistake though, I frozzled the oatmeal when I inadvertently put the speed dial to 10 a couple of times. The result? Glueish porrige. LOL. Live and learn. Tonight I'm thinking of making the shrimp risotto that was posted recently.
This is actually my second post as I my first post was "How often do you use your Thermomix?" Thank you to all who responded as it helped me to come to the decision to buy the machine.
I live in Canada and i don't think the Thermomix is as prevelant here as it is in other countries outside of Canada. I'm very happy to have come across this site and look forward to getting to know you.
I am retired after having had a career in finance and love to cook. I'm looking forward to learning how to use the Thermomix and sharing my adventures with you.

Hi Elsie and welcome to the forum.I think most people have over processed ingredients at one time or another so you are not unique

Welcome, it won't be long before you can just through ingredients in but is does need a little learning. I too thought I could make a chow mien with out a recipe and it was the only time I didn't have success. The more you use Thermie it starts becoming automatic. I love my Thermie porridge, try again.

Hi Elsie, thanks for popping over to introduce yourself formally - lovely to meet you and welcome to this wonderful forum. Dots recipe is my favourite porridge to date but we have all had our porridge disasters until we finally found one we liked. Glad to hear we helped you decided whether to buy or not - not much negativity can be found on this forum. Enjoy your retirement and playing with your new kitchen mate.

Hi Elsie
Welcome! I was happy to see your earlier post and the answers it generated.
You might find the topic,
"What Was the First Thing…"
interesting and give you an idea of how others started on their TMX journey.

Thanks, all for the welcome. I have read the above mentioned blogs (Porridge and What Was The First Thing....and have bookmarked the Canadian blog. We were out all day yesterday so today is my first time actually making dinner with the TM. I am making butter chicken, rice and vegetables. I plan on making the chicken ahead of time and then cooking the rice and vegetables and gently re-heating the chicken when it's time to eat. We'll see how that goes.

Welcome Elsie, to the most wonderful forum I have ever had the pleasure of participating in! (And thanks to Cornish Cream for mentioning my blog
) I'm so glad you have the adventurous spirit that's needed to embark with Thermomix in this land of ours where it's virtually unknown. I am on Vancouver Island and in the thousands of miles between you and I, there exists only a handful or two of Thermomix machines.
But if you tell one person... and I tell one person... maybe that picture will change.
You are in the best place though, by being in this forum. All the info and support you need is here. Its such a great place and I'm just sorry that I'm too busy to visit here more often.
Happy Thermomixing in Ottawa!
