You pull up the plunger which turns the metal bit at the bottom into an empty cylinder. You press this into the ice cream which results in a plug of ice cream being inside. It does not suck up. . Withdraw the "thingy" and now, place the "thingy" onto your serving dish. Push the oval button at the top and push down which releases your little plug of ice cream measuring 2.5 inches D x 2.5 inches Diameter. You can add different colours on top of one another but mine always turn out like the leaning tower of Piza since one of the flavours starts to melt uneavenly before I get chance to deal it the coup de gras.
