Brandied Cherries
« on: January 11, 2012, 12:24:17 pm »
I have a friend who managed to get hold of a heap of cherries over the Christmas period. She's put lots in brandy and now needs some ideas of what to do with them.
Any one have some good recipes or ideas?

Lucky girl.  Some ideas here MJ and these suggestions from Best Recipes.

Where to use brandied cherries

On top of vanilla ice cream
As a boozy sauce for cakes and puddings
As a filling in a mud cake, black forest cake or sponge cake
As part of a clafoutis baked custard
As a winter-flavoured pavlova topping
As an accompaniment to a cheese board

I'm not sure if you are referring to how to use up the brandied cherries or the cherries, but here's a recipe I made recently for Xmas gifts which turned out nicely and used a fair amount of cherries.

MJ what a great problem to have. I am willing to help your friend consume them. ;)

Thanks for all those ideas JD! Yes, the cherries are already brandied and she is wanting some ideas on using the brandied cherries.

My family loves custard with cherries on top. I use the bottled morello cherries for the kids and branded cherries for the adults. I just make the vanilla custard out of the EDC. Otherwise, I agree with all of Judy's suggestions.
