Are you interested in old cars?
« on: March 09, 2012, 05:49:15 am »
I know this will appeal to very few people but if you are at all interested in old cars. (1928-31) several of our club members are driving their cars to Ipswich from Perth going across the top of Australia. They are doing a blog as they go and hope to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor. They put up photos too. You may be interested to see some of the Australian countryside too. At the moment they are moving on from Broome today. They have a couple of backup vehicles with them.
The site is http://modelafordclub.com.au/about/  and the blog link  can be found on the right hand side of the page. It says Day one........day two.......

Please ignore this if you're not interested.

JD and MM I hope it was ok to put this up. I'm not soliciting money or anything. :-* :-* :-*

Sounds like you and DH should be with them Cookie - any reason you were not able to go on this trip (apart from the fact you and DD are off to Singapore soon  ;))

Lovely Robyn. I actually put that up for you. :-*

Judy we didn't want to travel in all that heat and with the possibility of being held up by floods. Also I don't know how I'd go chugging along at 70kph day after day. The seats aren't that comfy and they are camping under the stars most nights. I don't like wriggly things in my swag with me either. I guess it boils down to I have got past all that. Although there is one couple with them and they are in their 70's.
I do so admire them though. If you saw Australian Story the other night the father in it is Brett Pollock and he is sort of leading this trek. His son David is now on the station.

Thanks Cookie, I would love to follow their travels. My late husband and I had a chevy and a cobra (belonged to both clubs)
DH now has a mustang, so we will look on with interest and would love to donate to the Flying Doctors.

Michele I certainly didn't put it up looking for donations.  Please don't think that. :-*

Didn't think that at all Cookie. The flying doctors do a wonderful work and while following
this adventure I would love to donate to the cause.

What fun to watch cookie. I am with you on actually travelling like that these days. My DH and I so support the Cairns Flying Doctors as we have travelled to the far reaches of Cape York and see how much needed this service is and will always be so. They do a wonderful job.

Thanks for sharing it with us and good luck to the those intrepid travelers.

Sounds like a lot of fun.  I owned a "vintage" car for many years until selling it a couple of years ago.  It was an MGTC with right-hand drive, imported before they started making the MGTD for the American market.

It was fun to drive but I had not been able to for quite a few years since developing arthritis in my knees - couldn't push on the (very stiff) clutch.

I did get a lot of attention from other drivers when I was out in it.  Mostly men.  And every time I parked it in a shopping center, it would have some admirers when I came out of the store...  I even once was asked out on a dinner date because of it.

Fantastic Andie. DH has just converted his latest acquisition from left hand drive.
