Hi RosieB I didn't find a recipe for a washing day pancake but did find a wash day pudding. I'm wondering whether it is it so am posting this link (not sure if it will work as I don't remember how to do it). Hope this helps.

Thank you for finding this.  He thinks it sounds good but does not sound like what dear old MIL used to make.
I did not read the story that went with it to him.

Here's another Washing Day Pudding Recipe, without the blended frog in the washing machine!!

A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.
