Other kitchen equipment
«

I've just moved overseas and need to set up with kitchen with the basics all over again. I've just got my
so I want to know what other items of kitchen equipment do you still use with the
and what stuff do you never use anymore. So far I've got some scrapers, chopping board, a sharp knife and a baking dish (use it for rolls, biscuits etc too).
Thanks for your help.

Ros, I would want a cake tin that could double as a bread tin. Also lots of plastic containers for ingredients and to store cooked food. A cheap electric egg beater. A silmat is very handy.. A good silicon spatula. A lot depends on how long you will be staying.

Like chookie LOTS of plastic storage containers for all the ingredients.
What do you normally use your TMX for? I bake lots of cakes, cookies, bread etc so I use my cake tins, tart tins and silpat mat a lot. Spatulas, apple corer ( I have been having CADA for breakfast), vegetable peeler, good quality knives, oven trays and my egg separator ( I could never see the point of these until someone gave me one and now I love it!)

cake tins, bread tin, trays for baking, pyrex dishes for freezing meals, then straight to the oven/ dishwasher.

Ros I'd sit down with pen and paper and think of things you would make/eat for a couple of days. I'd then look at the list and write down what I need for them.
I'd have a good knife/bread knife, containers for my flour etc, plastic containers for bits and pieces, a couple of bowls, a tray for baking, a 20cm round cake tin, a casserole, a rolling pin, wooden spoon, a hand mixer, measuring spoons and cups, a measuring jug, a frying pan, salt and pepper shakers or grinders. Possibly a multi purpose nice serving bowl.
A vegie peeler too.
Perhaps go to a store that sells this stuff and have a good look round to see what you need.

Ros, I have moved into a small unit for a few years in a remote area so didnt bring much equipement except my TM, sharp knives and a handheld blender. I have since bought a coffee machine and grinder (essential!), muffin tin (nearly all cake mixtures become muffins, so I can freeze left overs), waffle machine, and sandwich press and a halogen bench top oven. Also a few casserole type dishes and small ramkins.
We use the waffle machine for breakfasts on a weekend and left overs are frozen as a sandwich base for me. (fermented rice recipe from Quirky Jo). Sandwich press is mainly used to grill haloumi and eggplant.
The bench top oven was purely because I hate the oven in the unit as it cooks breads etc OK, but not meats and veggies. (Yeah, I probably am a princess!). Just had a look in the kitchen and have bought lots of small gadgets - shredders, juicers etc.
I am very well set up for me - so agree have a really good look at what you like to cook and how you like to cook it and go from there.

Thanks for the tips ladies. I'm here for 2--3 years but will ship whatever I have back to Australia so nothing will be wasted.
Cheers,
