Thanks... when I bought it it felt like it'd been stored in the fridge so I just put it in mine... do you have to keep it in the fridge? (coconut oil, that is).

No, I never do.  Too hard to use that way.

Made this today with normal milk, dairy chocolate and coconut oil.  Absolutely delicious.  Thanks for another great recipe Jo :-*.

Is this version of the choc hazlenut spread bitty? I mean is it smooth or coarse?

I think it's very smooth.  DH said it has a slightly crunchy texture which he thinks adds to it.  That might be the rapadura.  Also, I presumed that I had to roast the hazelnuts and remove the skin - a very messy job.

Meagan, I went with this version because of the comments re the EDC version needing tweaking.

Put the hazelnuts in a clean, old sock (or similar device) and rub them around and around and around - this helps get most of the skins off after roasting.

I never roast the hazelnuts or remove the skin, and it's still quite smooth, yummy!

That would explain why it wasn't in your instructions!  Thanks Jo!  Will remember for next time.

That's a great tip for other recipes!  Thanks Thermomixer!

Oh man... I can't WAIT to try this one! I'd definitely use the coconut oil, I think as I use it in just about everything else, it's so good for us! Bring on the "nutella"...
yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum...

What about using Macadamia oil? It may be more delicate and light enough for this?

I had a delicious but hard to spread a choc macadamia spread from QLD's Tropical World a few years ago and wanted to make similar...

This receipe could work for me too as I am not keen on the idea of making the EDC's without cocoa...

Gonna post my results at the Jam/Chutney spot then.

Cheers!

I got around to making this today. I had roasted the exact amount of hazelnuts I needed the other day only to discover I had just over half the amount. Questioned hubby and he had a guilty look - luckily I had more hazelnuts, although unroasted.

I used milk and butter. At first I found that the spread had a strong hazelnut aftertaste but you could hardly tell once it had cooled and thickened in the fridge.

Yum and good to find a healthier version which tastes delcious!
