White sauce recipe?
« on: October 23, 2012, 04:14:19 am »
Can anyone point me in the direction of a good white sauce recipe? I'm thinking of using it as part of a meal for my 1 year old so don't need huge portions. Does it go with chicken and veges?

Hi Tasty,
The white sauce recipe in the EDC is good, but if you want a cheese sauce, I think monkeyboyzmum's awesone cheese sauce
from this forum is wonderful!  It makes quite a lot, but apparently it freezes and thaws really well.  Just leave out the cayenne for little ones  ;)

Tasty, why don't you make up some of Uni's SOS Sauce, I love it, so does my 2 year old GS I just mix some in with his veggies so they aren't so dry.  Sorry don't know how to do links.

Thats a nifty little recipe Uni, I wonder why I haven't seen it on the forum before? ???

Tasty, my mum and SD really like the white sauce in the EDC with some cheese added. Its simple and can be used for lots of things. And besides, I've memorised the recipe, so if I can't be bothered getting another cookbook out or carrying my laptop down to the kitchen, thats the one I use ;D

I didn't think to look in the EDC - I usually just check here first. I think I'll be using that one and making it into a cheese sauce as per the variations.

Uni's SOS sauce sounds good too but I don't have most of those ingredients.

The chicken I was going to use smelt off so I threw it out but will probably try this next week.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for thinking of me Amy. Yes I'm well just busy unpacking still as well as looking after a one year old and doing normal household chores and being tired from pregnancy.

I come and lurk here sometimes but I don't have the time to comment although I'd like to.

I hope the pregnancy is going well for you Tasty. I can't imagine what it must be like trying to manage a household, run after a one-year old and carry another baby at the same time, but its seems like a lot of women do it!

Always happy to see you posting, but can understand how busy you are :)

Tasty, we always used to make the EDC one and add cheese but now use the awesome cheese sauce. Since finding out how well it freezes I've been making the full batch and freezing half for pasta bake. When defrosting I normally need to just add a little additional milk and wisk well.

Tasty, if you are going to make cheese sauce, I strongly recommend the awesome cheese sauce from this forum.  IMO it is much nicer than the one in the EDC.
