Spiced Nuts

Spiced Nuts

Ingredients:
30g olive oil
1 tablespoon smoked paprika
30g maple syrup
1 clove garlic crushed/bruised
2 teaspoons sea salt flakes
1/2 teaspoon chilli powder or flakes
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
500g mixed unsalted nuts(if you have salted nut don't used salt flakes)

Preparation:
1. Preheat oven 180 0 C
2. Line oven tray with baking paper
3. Place all ingredients in TMX except NUTS 1minute, 37OC on ^^
4. Add all the nuts 1 1/2 minutes  on  :-: ^^
5. Bake for 10 -15 minutes

Tips/Hints:I got this out of a magazine sitting on a shelf in a caravan park and have just converted it for the thermo mix. The result I got from the TMX was better than on any other occasion that I've made it. I've used more maple syrup than what the original recipe called for but everyone likes my version better. Go easy on the chilli powder...last time I accidently put in 2 tablespoons and the grandkids weren't too pleased :o but if you like hot hot food it is  ;D good. These nuts are great for nibbles at any time. Should be eaten cold but we like them hot out of the oven too. The recipe originally stated that they can be made 2 days ahead and stored in an airtight container, but I've taken them on camping trips and they were OK a week later although they don't usually last that long.

Thanks boonderoostudio - great recipe.  A friend made something similar recently (not in the TMX) and it had rosemary chopped finely through it which gave an extra dimension.

Good work with converting - lucky find at the caravan park  :-* :-* :-*

Thanks! Will try some rosemary next time as I've got plenty growing in the garden and I do love rosemary. :)

Thanks for converting. This type of thing is especially useful at Christmas and New Year.

I prepare salt-glazed  almonds, pecans or other nuts - obviously not in the Thermomix, but these are very simple and have much less salt than commercial salted nuts.   These are good for folks who are on salt-restricted diets.

I use a wide skillet, fill 1/2 with water, bring to a simmer and add salt until it will no longer dissolve and you can see a few grains in the bottom.
Turn the heat up and when the water is at a rolling boil, add the nuts, stir once and immediately remove from heat, dump into a colander to drain.
Spread the nuts on a sheet pan and put them into a low oven (250° F.)  until they are dry and crisp.   You do not want to toast or burn them.

If you want a slightly sweeter version, you can add 2 tablespoons of honey to the boiling water just before adding the nuts.

No one I know cares for herbs or spices in these nuts but you can add fresh rosemary - 1 small sprig should infuse the water sufficiently, or other herbs that you like.

Try a very small batch and see how you like them.

Sound great - these are always popular at Chrissie with drinks.  Ta.  I add some of the old Worcestershire sauce too for a little extra.
