Perhaps some puppets of some sort. Either finger puppets or simply faces drawn and coloured and put onto sticks. They could do the characters of a fairy tale, and then put on a puppet play of it.  No need for a theatre, just stand behind a lounge chair.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

Thanks everyone. I knew what you meant CC.
However we've had so much rain it'd be suicide to go near running water just now!

If you cut about four pages of A4 paper in half, then cut 1 piece of A4 card in half you can make a holiday diary. Fold the card and paper in half  then simply staple the paper together or if you have access to a sewing machine sew down the middle of paper. Then glue the outside pages of the booklet to the inside of the card to make a small note book. If the children are old enough to write or draw the can put their holidays or any stories in the book. If not they can put stickers on the pages or paper cut outs.
My mum and I used to teach craft to the children at afterschool care and this was one of the top favourites

Being 6 and 9 (did I get that right??)  they should be able to occupy themselves a fair bit...
few more ideas:
- trips to the local library for books etc
- sketching
- sack races in pillowcases
- scrapbooking
- fingerpainting
- playdoh

What about Hama beads? Kids can make all sorts of things with those. Not sure if you have Ikea near you DJ but they sell the beads & boards much cheaper than the official version & they work just as well. You could get kids to sort the beads into colours, that would keep them busy for a few hours!
