Watermelon.. how long will it keep?
« on: February 05, 2013, 04:19:15 am »
I have just bought a large seedless whole watermelon as it was so cheap... $3.20. How long will it keep if I don't cut into it?  Is it worth buying more and storing them?.  We are having a watermelon and lemon smoothie every day for breakfast
Can it be frozen?

What about Rockmelon, the same questions

thanks
Kay

I got a 10kg one the other day for 70c/kg.... I cut it into pieces and froze some in chunks - miss6 has just told me "the 1/2 frozen watermelon in my lunchbox was just amazingly delicious today, thanx mum."   :) :-*  (Not bad for a child who is not real keen on watermelon! ;) ) So yes, it can be frozen - tho I was going to use the chunks for in lemonade for my refreshing drink!
:D

Kayc you can freeze rockmelon  as well, whole rockmelon should keep keep for a week or so, they don't ripen anymore after picking just get softer.
I child-proofed my house, but they still get in!
