Saying Hello
« on: November 27, 2010, 09:47:40 pm »
Hi Everyone,

I've just bought my thermomix, got it out of its package, given it its first clean and tried my first recipe!!  Almond soup - delicious!.  I've got 2 young children another one on the way (which will mean 3 children under 4 by March) and a husband that would love love love to be cooked for more often!!  My usual cooking routine ends up being ...cooking mine and the children's lunch, cooking the childrens tea, and then being so exhuasted by the time I get the kids in bed that the last thing I feel like is cooking again for my husband.  I'm hoping that the thermomix will reduce my cooking time,  give me inspiration of what to cook (with the lovely big recipe book) AND reduce my fear of trying to cook delicious looking recipes!!  and help me to enjoy cooking more! - I certainly enjoyed trying out an almond soup that I've wanted to try for ages but never had the guts to start a smooth soup with whole lot of hard almonds... eith the thermomix those almonds were powdered in seconds and the whole family wanted second helpings of the smoothest most yummy soup.            Question:  Is there a way of preparing something in the thermomix in the early morning and setting it to be ready by lunch  time - enabling me to do something out of the house in the morning with the kids and coming back to the meal cooked and ready - ie a stew / lentils or something similar..... or do I always need to cook it first then go out, then heat it up for lunch?     I'm really looking forward to trying out some of the delicious looking recipes on this site...
Oh and another !Question:  I'm english but live in Spain and have bought my thermomix here which is full of spanish recipes - delicious but I would love to know if there are other recipe books with different food too.  Is this an australian site?  I've never been to Australia - is your food more multi cultural like in England?  Spain definitely has lots of delicious recipes but they are all very very spanish and the thermomix recipe book I have doesn't seem to venture out beyond spanish recipes. SO is there a site where I can brouse recipe books on line or at least their covers and titles?    xxx Rebecca

Hi Rebecation,

welcome to the forum. With regard to your question about preparing food to have it ready for lunch - the TMX is not like a slow cooker, that is one feature they haven't incorporated yet so you will need to make ahead and re-heat at lunch time. The other option will be to cook larger quantities when you make your evening meal and reheat these the next day at lunch time, taking away the need to prepare lunch in the mornings. As you build up a routine, you may find you can do a big cook up once a week that enables you to freeze some meals ahead just to take out the freezer the night before and heat up for lunch.

With regard to recipes, there are heaps of good recipes on this site which will enable you to branch out beyond the Spanish ones and if you are after anything in particular you can always put up a request and if anyone has the recipe they can pm it to you.

Look forward to hearing how you get on and that your husband loves the TM and your efforts with it. Who knows he may even use it once the baby arrives and you have less time to cook.

cheers,
RoxyS

Hi Rebecation, glad to see you were able to post a hello to us all.  You are certainly going to have your hands full in March when the baby arrives.  RoxyS gave you good advice there, nothing to add as far as setting and leaving the house - that is a big no no. Planning seems to be the way to go - there are only 2 of us but if I cook a full meal there are always leftovers for lunch the next day. Sometimes you just need to do more vegies or rice to stretch it further and I always have packs of rice in the freezer too to save time. Most of us on here are Australian but the site originated in Portugal I believe and we hijacked it (according to one of our moderators Thermomixer).  We do have had a lot of members from countries all over the world so our recipe base is becoming more and more varied as they join us in posting their favourite recipes.  Have a browse, see what you like and perhaps print out a few recipes to try.  We all love this forum, hope you will too.  Happy cooking.

There is a uk book called fast and easy cooking. You can order a copy from uk thermomix. The other option is to have all your prep done ie chop veggies, cube meat, peel onion garlic and have it in e fridge ready to go then as soon as you walk in the door throw it on then unpack the kids etc then by the time that is done the meal will be ready to go. Otherwise doping the left overs thing is alway s a winner :)

Welcome to the forum :) glad you worked out how to intro yourself  ;)

Hi Rebecca, I am a newbie to the site and to the TMX but have gained a wealth of information from the site and the lovely people who reply. I can see already the the tmx is going to save you alot of time, something that will be even more precious come March. I have been having a quick look in my edc book then always end up looking on the forum for the hints and tips to go along with the recipe. Have fun. Jenny  :D

Thanks everyone for your wonderful tips xx  I've got my thermomix demonstration this afternoon - yeah!  I spent yesterday evening copy and pasting loads of recipes that I want to try out from this site into my little cooking folder on my computer - can't wait to get to grips with this thermomix and really get going.  Thanks for your support  xx  Bex

Hi Rebecca - I'm also British but I'm still in the UK!

Hope you're having fun with your TM.  I've only had mine a few weeks and loving it.  Had an enforced separation this week as decorators took over my kitchen but we're back together now and currently cooking spaghetti bolognaise, as soon as that's done I'm getting on with some chowder.  Its absolutely freezing here in the UK (stop talking about bbqs you lot!  ;) ) but we're on the South Coast so we have no snow.

Once again welcome
