Dog issues

Nothing to do with Thermomix so hope I'm not breaking any rules but I'm hoping fellow dog owners can help me out with something.
Our doggie developed a couple of lumps recently so we took her to the vets last week to check her out. These lumps turned out to be fat and she's 5kg over weight. Should be 25 and she's 30.
We've recently both started working away so Grandma has been chief dog sitter for the past 4 months and therefore she's been getting very spoilt with treats etc.
Anyway, we've stopped all treats now and started to weigh out her food (dry complete). Since then, she's done nothing but fart and smells sooo bad!
I don't get how stopping her treats can be the cause of this. Without taking another trip to the vets, does anyone have any advice?

I'm afraid I don't have an answer for your Tracy about Sparky's problem. The only time our dog Chance gets smelly is when he eats horse dung or rabbits droppings. We give also give Chance a complete dry food moistened with water.

Hi Tracy not sure if I can help a little regarding the wind.
Try changing the food, and make sure if you feed dry that the dog gets adlib water. It may be just a change to the digestive system without treats. It may be the dog food formulation has changed without you knowing.
Also remember the feeding guide is a guide only and some dogs need more or less than the prescribed ration. We have always fed our dogs by 'eye' not the amounts written on a bag. You can still feed treats if you want to but reduce the main meal. If you feed one big meal try splitting into two smaller ones to aid digestion.
Plenty of exercise helps with digestion too that may lessen the wind issues. (Have plenty of matches as striking a match helps hide the smells.)
Good luck, and glad to hear the lumps were nothing.

Hi, have you changed the brand of dry food?
Dog food varies in quality and price. The more you pay for the food the better quality it is (generally). Have a look at the ingredient label for real meat products and no cereals. Cereals make a dog full but not with meat protein. If you buy quality you can feed less. Hopefully the quality food will stop the farting. I'm pretty sure there are good brands that do weight loss ones but just check for cereals.
I hope I've helped.

Hi all. Thanks for the advice.
We're going to swap out her food tomorrow. Rather ironically, the food we're currently feeding her on states on the bag "reduces flatulence" ha!
We've not changed her food, just stopped her treats. Maybe she's eating more as a consequence though.
Got a scented candle lit in the room now which seems to be masking some (not all) of the smell.
Fingers crossed for the new food. Thanks again everyone

The food we feed here in the UK is this
http://www.edenpetfoods.com
but we are in the UK. It comes top in the which dog foods survey.
So many dog foods here are full of wheat and sugar beet and that is not what carnivore diets are made of. Some of the vets may also sell food for profit more than nutritional advice so that isnt always a path to take. A lot of companies do trial sachets.
From a brief web search if I was in Australia this is one food I'd consider trialling, as it looks to have good ingredients. However I have no idea of cost of this one or your budget.

Just checked out Eden foods as we're also in the UK.
Looks really good and not far off the price we are already paying for her food.
Just one question, what's the difference between small and medium kibble?

I have an old dog that loves to take over my air space in the office. It just lies there and snores. Next thing...kapow! silent and violent

There is no way I would light a match when either of my dogs fart Halex. They'd blow the house sky high!
Cream Puff - my dogs are like yours...deadly.
Come to think of it my horse doesn't smell like roses either...
We've got our dogs on "Light and Mature" (maybe that's what I should be on!) and they have both dropped a little bit of weight. (going out to read ingredients on the bag in a minute...might do me some good too!) But one dog is also on arthritis injections and he is moving more, which makes the other dog move more too.
Hmmm maybe I need the arthritis injections!

As far as weight goes Roger was pronounced obese by the vet a couple of years ago. We were told to halve his daily food intake
So we now give him two small meals a day, lite and mature bikkies and one of those little alfoil packs (a bit expensive at 88c per 100g pack but its easy and convenient as I cannot stand dog food in the fridge).
About the arthritis, our vet told us to give Roger glucosamine. Roger takes one tablet with his dried food each day. He now moves freely and even goes for long walks with DH. Not bad for an old bu88er. The dog that is-he's 16.

Eden foods. I get the medium, and it is quite small.
I imagine small kibble for wee dogs.
Get the sample bag for £5 and see how it goes.
Our very active border collie gets one level plastic Chinese takeaway container split between two feeds.
Only food he would eat.
It may work out cheaper as you feed less than ther foods because of the higher protein.
