Cleaning out the curry smell

Hello lovelies,

When I go away I lend my TM to a friend who loves curries. A vinegar soak usually does the trick, but this time the lid, spatula, butterfly and even the bowl itself still smell, even after days worth of soaking in vinegar. I don't care about the discolouration of the 'plastics' but I definitely want the taste gone (especially as I hate curries!). Does anyone have any tips?

There has been discussions on here about the smells left after cooking especially on the lid and seal here flowsy.Personally I have two bowls and with one lid and seal I only ever mix "sweet" things with them.
Another way to go is to put the TM bowls in the dishwasher.

Welcome to the forum with your first posting flowsy.  I must not cook curries too often as I've never had this problem but have read of many who have.

Hi and welcome?

I had this problem when I made my first curry.

I tried all the soaking tips but to no avail.

I ended up putting the lid and the seal out in the sun for a couple of hours and that seemed to do the trick.

Funnily enough,,I've never had the same problem when among curries, only that initial time

Chrissa, Did you find that putting them in the sun got rid of the taste too?

Thanks for the link, Cornish Cream. I did read through the forum before posting, but it's more the taste than the smell. I don't care if it stays bright green, I just want the icky taste gone!

Welcome to the forum flowsy.  One solution mentioned at one stage was to put the plastics in the freezer - it seemed to work for some people, but not for me.  Perhaps you could also try a paste of bicarb and lemon juice?  I guess anything is worth a try.  Is your TMX still under warranty, if so, maybe you could see if the plastics and the seal under the blades can be replaced, that might do the trick.

Just learned of this. Take a slice of bread soaked in white vinegar . Place in bowl lid on and leave overnight. Worth a try.

It was winter and I remember making minestrone that ended up with a curry flavour.  After I left it in the direct sunlight, it seemed to go away, both smell and taste.  I had tried a few of the other suggestions first, vinegar etc so it may have been a combination of things but it only ever happened when it was brand new.
