New User - Cairns
« on: May 10, 2014, 11:55:09 pm »
I'm a newbie to the Thermomix world. 'Nigella' (our name for Thermo) arrived on Friday evening - so far have made butter, hummus, banana/mango/macadamia sorbet (x2), and stir fry veg - all very delish.  Also apricot chicken and orange marinated chicken (recipes from web) but they were disastrous!   I'm wondering what others think of main meals in the therm?  Beginning to think it will be used mainly for dips, soups and sorbet...

Hi MoragaJagga, welcome to the forum.  The Thermomix can be used for so much more than soups, dips and sorbet.  I wouldn't have bought mine if I couldn't cook main meals in it.  There were disasters to start with but these days there are so many great recipes out there that disasters are now a thing of the past.

eg try this method of cooking mince.  Most people don't like it done in the TMX bowl but this is a brilliant way to do it.

GF has given you a couple of great links to tried and true recipes and we also have reviews of recipes of all TMX books here.

Then there's the all-in-one recipe section using the varoma, have a look at those recipes too.

Good luck with your machine, it takes a while to get used to something different but for good, healthy food you can't beat the Thermomix.

Hi I'm in Cairns got my thermomix about 8 months ago. Wouldn't be without it now. I cook a lot of our main meals in it. What sort of meals do you cook at the moment?

Need to cook gluten free (as I have a daughter with coeliac disease).   We mostly eat veg, chicken and beef.  We usually do some sort of meat with fresh salads.  We also like risottos and soups.  We don't eat a lot of rice or pasta.  It would be great to make some tasty meats that I can throw on a plate with salads for easy week night meals.  After two disasters I really lack confidence now.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.  I too was not a great fan of main meals cooked in the Thermomix but am experimenting with the idea that was posted re cooking mince in the basket - I did have a few disasters in the beginning with shredding my chicken etc but quite like the idea of steaming chicken or fish in the varoma while doing soup or sauce in the bowl.  Keep hanging in there  and using the Forum - as day by day you will find another idea.  I have just found a couple thanks to your post.
You haven't failed at anything until you stop trying.
