Traditional Bagels from Quick Fix in the TMX page28
« on: January 26, 2012, 06:23:48 am »
I love having a bagel for lunch, and a supply of frozen ones in the freezer for lunch for family members. These are easy, tasty, and I love the use of the Varoma for steaming them instead of boiling in a sauce pan on the stove. Probably a little more denser than my normal recipe, but delicious all the same. I made 8 cos I like a bigger roll for lunch, and it just took an additional 5 mins in the oven 5/5

These are delicious! I loved the the taste and texture.

It takes about 2.5 hours all up to make. The dough rises really easily. (I put my dough in a preheated oven to rise) It wasn't easy making the bagels and it's very important to flour hands. I couldn't make a hole nicely so my bagels are all different shapes and sizes but regardless, they taste amazing.

I was surprised to see the bagels grow in size once they finished steaming in the Varoma. They did take a lot longer to cook/brown than the 20 mins suggested. At least 1/2 hour I think.

They taste great both warm and cold.

Great recipe and worth the time to make. My holes disappeared a little when steamed, but they still tasted great. I found the dough easy to work with and the cooking times were as per the recipe. Will make again.

I love bagels, they're certainly worth the effort Kimmy.
