Braised Steak and Onions

Braised Steak & Onions.  As requested by Astarra.

The original recipe came from Best Recipes.

1kg oyster blade steak, trimmed
Seasoned flour
2 tablespoons oil
60g butter
3 onions halved and thickly sliced
1 tablespoon flour extra
2 1/4 cups water -  I used less than this
1 or 2 beef stock cubes
1 teaspoon vegemite - I don't use this
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper
Pinch of nutmeg.

Dust the steak lightly with the seasoned flour
Heat the oil in a frying pan and brown the steaks well on each side.  Place in a dutch oven.  I dont have one of these so use a casserole dish
Repeat with the remaining steaks
Add butter to the frying pan and mix with the pan juices
Add the onions and cook until transparent, stir in the extra flour and cook for 2 mins.
Gradually add water and stock cubes, stir until the sauce boils and thickens a little.
Add vegemite if using, tomato paste and sauce
Pour the sauce over the meat, cover and cook for 1 1/2 - 2 hours.
The  man who said it can't be done should not interupt the woman doing it.

I make a very similar recipe Margaret and we all love it.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.
