Bread sticks /rusks
« on: September 16, 2009, 02:44:24 am »
i am after a recipe that i cam make and add vegies to colour the bread for little kids.

Would use a normal bread mix, but am not sure what adding the veggies to colour it would do.

any ideas?

No expert, but why not try kneading in a little bit of pureed vegie and slightly less liquid?

TMXer may be of help, or Warren.

Belinda do you want the vegies in it or for them just to be coloured? I was thinking you could use a little tumerick which is not really strong in flavour to colour it if that is what you are after. I will be watching this thread with interest as I would like to make rusks but am not keen on the recipe in EDC because it calls for formulae and we are fully breastfed in this house.

On another note I did make some bread rusks for #2 I just formed small oval shaped bread dough and cooked it till it was really dried out in the oven.

mainly for the colour but also to get a bit of extra veg into them.

There is a three colour bread recipe (using spinach, beetroot and saffron/tumeric) in the vegetarian TMX cookbook if you are just after a bread-type recipe to dry out in the oven.  Let me know if you would like me to email it to you.  :)

The ones in the EDC book I would either replace the Formula with breast milk or just water. I found it odd that it had formula in the recipe then thought about it. If they are looking at it from a baby point of view, then cow's milk mightn't be appropriate either and formula more so as it is baby food, if you know what I mean  ??? ???
