Candida diet
« on: September 23, 2009, 08:41:56 am »
Recently I was adviced to go on the Candida diet, and I was wondering if anyone else has done this? I was on it for about 3 months.
It is for treating 'Candida Overgrowth' which is very common and can make you very ill. The diet involves eating no fermented foods, no mouldy foods (including mushrooms, as it is a fungi), no dairy except butter and yogurt, sometimes no wheat, no yeast, absolutly NO sugar in any form, including natural (so no fruit!), the only sweetener you can use is stevia. There are a few exceptions here and there, but it is very very strict.

I am going back on it as of Monday because I feel unwell again... I am giving myself a few days to morn at the loss of favourite foods again. So I will be posting Candida Diet friendly food for a while. I would be interested to here if anyone else has done this diet.

My DH did one about 12 months ago Sim.  It was pretty difficult & I dont' know that it really did the trick.  Are you being advised to take anything to help your body rid itself of the Candida along with the diet or purely diet at this stage? It seems to take months to really get anyhere.

I have not heard of any anti-candida diet that allows you any wheat.  I used to work for a big nutritional company & have their anti-candida diet & suggestions for meals if you would like it - just PM me & I will aim to send it through.

Good luck with it.

I ate wheat last time with no worries, it doesn't seem to be a trigger for me. I am seeing a naturapath and I am taking practitioner range anti-fungal with with it. The first time was successful, but when I started eating normal again I think I rushed into it too soon and my gut still hadn't had time to heal properly. I went away for the weekend (and I think the different water affected me) and then I got the flu 3 hits a row and my body was completely out of wack (not much fun!).

I am focusing more on what I should be eating this time, rather than what I can't. So lots and lots of vegies and some fish :)
I have a quite a few recipes, but I am always happy for more. The tastes do get a little bored with whats on offer during the candida diet.

Our homeopath makes up (what do you call them lol) homeopathic drops to help rid your body of candida along with cutting out of the no no's. Speeds up the process as it helps to kill off the candida and heal the gut from memory.

Please keep us posted -- I am passing this info onto someone who says she suffers from constant bouts. Just from this posting she has realised that practically everything she eats affects her. Not good. All doctors have ever done so far is give her a prescription to treat the symptom, but it returns regularly.

Creampuff, there a lots of books available for purchase, or even check out your library.
I have 4.. I think (I lent some to a friend I can remember the names!)
The yeast connection (there is a cookbook for it too) is one of them.

People who suffer from 'Irritable Bowel Syndrome' should look into the possibility of candida overgrowth being the cause.

Most foods were affecting me too... and now I am getting that way again. It got really bad that felt like I couldn't even work. The digestive system stops working the way it should and it can be very painful. If you're friend is open to it, I recommend that she see a naturopath/homeopath as they often specialise in this, instead of her local GP.

I have drops to take this time too (last time it took parex tablets). The drops I'm taking are called BioResearch Forumla CND. I'm also going to start taking pro-biotics, and then I will make another appointment and she will direct me in the right direction.

I am making coconut pie this weekend and drinking wine before I start my diet! I am very sad to start it after having my TM for only 2 weeks. :(

Sorry to read about your problems Sim - I will raise my glass and wish you a speedy recovery so that you can get back cooking with your TMX.  You were going so well with it too. There are probably things you can still eat that can be done in the TMX so put your converting hat on and I wish you luck.

Its alright, I am kind of used to it now, it could be worse!  :)

The thermomix will make it very easy actually. Last night I made frozen custard with lemon zest, I could replace the sugar with stevia and that will be my savior through this diet, lol! So that excites me just a little. I'll combine the cooking powers of my thermomix, pressure cooker and slow cooker and everything will be breeze! (normal cooking its a drag during the diet, because one side effect can be fatigue).

Yes Sim, it's pretty boring but focus on coming out of the fog the other side..............

CP63 is your friend aware that Candida engages in skullduggery in that it lets you think it's gone away & then pops up again later.  Nasty stuff......

Hi Sim,
I'm new to this forum and was searching back through older topics when I came across yours. I have only ever experienced Candida twice in my life (while breastfeeding my two children).  I came across this american site which perscribes a good probiotic with digestive enzymes, ph balancer etc. I highly recommed the products as it has worked twice for me and I didn't even have to give up the sugar!! Although I may have had quicker results if I did.  I takes a month or two to work but slowly it does work.
