I got dumped into the dummy maths class Amy where we used calculators shaped like an owl and only did the basics!!
Dad nearly tore his hair out for years and years trying to make me understand..

Creampuff, I tried to think of it logically like you have set it out and I sat and thought about it for a long time and it seemed to make sense that it was 2 x my 1/3 but then I was second guessing myself because that didn't make sense....lol

Love the idea of owl-shaped calculator! ;D
I finally got moved to the dummy class after two years of asking to be!! My teachers obviously wanted me to suffer.
I remember in year nine I told the maths teacher I didn't understand a particular concept, and she snapped at me "what's not to understand?"
I didn't ask for help again >:(

I am a bit strange when it comes to maths.  I hated it at school - back of the class, wasting time - 35% in my final exam.

Now I am doing all the bookwork for our business and love it (especially when everything balances).  I am really pedantic, though, it HAS to balance to the last cent, otherwise I worry at it for ages and ages (costs us more in my time that then missing cent, but can't help that).

I do sudokus nearly every day as well - although that isn't really a mathematical pass time.  I guess I'm not such a dummy at maths after all.

funny how the brain works isn't it... my adopted brother was a mathematical genius but couldn't spell to save himself... would spell how things sounded like they should be spelt!!

But that is why I could never go to university and study dietetics. It involves sciency things, which involve maths :-[

Don't rule it out completely Amy. It's amazing what you can learn in a different environment or with a different teaching method.

I was an absolutely terrible writer. Did very badly in English at school and wrote horrible essays when I was at uni. Once I got into the workplace I was lucky enough to have some colleagues that really showed me how to write. I then did a writing course and my writing just kept improving. Now, people look for my guidance on how to write things well and I try to help as many people as I can to improve their writing skills.

Maybe you could try an adult education maths class and see if you can refine your maths skills enough to get through a university degree?  There are lots of ways you can get help and assistance.

Thats a great little story consumerate :D

I think the college down here does adult education. I could check it out. To get into university I would need to apply through mature age entry and take the test, so I would have to study for that anyway. Its something to keep in mind for the future ;)

Thanks! ;)
