Pickled onion cheese sauce

 :D......I know, sounds weird but lovely.
This isn't a recipe, just a suggestion for the next time you make cheese sauce - with a twist.

I chopped and blitzed 100g "Mersey Valley" pickled onion cheese, and set aside.

Make the EDC bechamel sauce using the 500g milk/50g cornflour/50g butter/1/2tsp. salt quantities.
Add the grated pickled onion cheese, and mix 10 seconds - speed 7.
Was a lovely flavour, and I made it for a broccoli bake topped with panko breadcrumbs, a little more p/o cheese sprinked on top and baked for 15 mins.



I will now experiment with different flavoured cheeses  ;)

Looks great maddy, is that a potato twisty thingy on that plate  ???  Kids would love those.

Judy, I used an apple corer/slicer for the potatoes



Then sprayed with some olive oil, and some seasoning then roasted in the oven for 30-40 minutes until ready.
Kids loved it!

It is getting tiring though to find new ways for them to eat some veggies   ;)

Oh dear, I am worse than a spoilt child - I want one of those  :-)) :-)) :-))  I love serving potatoes in different ways and this is certainly different.  Thanks Maddy.

Just remembered, Mothers' Day is coming up - it is on my list.  Did you buy it locally or over the net?

This was an Avanti one, which I did buy from a kitchen store.  I paid $25.00 for it.

Good work Maddy - the sauce may sound odd - but it sounds delish.  Like those flavours.

Yes, I still haven't bought my apple peeler/corer/slicer - but have seen them in the local shop (when it was closed!!)

Maddy, I was given the apple peeler/corer for Mothers' Day and when the house was quiet and DH had gone to bed, I sat down in front of it and thought I'd peel an apple.  Well, do you think I could work it out  :P :P :P  Sat it in front of DH in the morning and left him to figure it out.  Some 15 minutes later I heard an ah ha coming from the kitchen but no, that idea didn't work.  Then the penny dropped and it finally came to him.  Pity there are no instructions with it, just diagrams of the different components which tell you what they do but not how they do it.  I grabbed a pile of potatoes and did your wriggly chips in the oven for lunch.   GD and GS are going to love these and think their Grandma is so clever.

 :D They are a little bit of a brain teaser, aren't they?  ;)
Glad it was figured out in the end.
I think odd shaped, or larger apples/potatoes can still leave a little skin on.    Once it has been cut in spirals, pull it off and keep it together, and just use a peeler to take off the little bits that were missed.

My little man loves his apples cut for school like this.  Your grandkids will definitely think your clever!  ;D
