Hi From Milly
« on: July 15, 2010, 03:52:27 am »
Hi there.

My name is Milly and I have been lurking/using this website on and off for a while now. Brazen gave me the me the link ages ago and I pop in every so often when I need some new idea's in the kitchen.  Some of you may recognise me from other internet forums  ;) ;D I have recognised a few usernames!

I bought my thermonix about 2.5years ago and use it a lot in my kitchen. The main reason I  decided to buy a TM was because my DH has multiple sclerosis and as a result has quite particular dietry requirements... he tries to eliminate as much saturated (ie animal) fats from his diet as he can. 'Vegan' is the closest possible description you could use to describe his diet- expcet that would probably have vegans jumping up and down because he will eat lean cuts of meat such as chicken breast. Fish contains a good fat, so that's also good for him to eat. But no cheese/dairy, eggs... or coconut milk.

It sounds simple enough, but I do find it quite hard to create interesting and palatable food for our children when I cant use most meats, cheese, milk and eggs. LOL. The TM helps becuase it allows me to use really fresh unprocessed ingredients and I can maximise the flavours of the ingredients available to me IYKWIM.

Anyway. I think thats enough of an introductory post!

Hi Milly, welcome to the forum from another whose husband has MS.  I make sure my DH's diet consists of mainly low fat meals at home but if we go out he is free to choose anything he wants. He wouldn't give up meat for anything but we don't have a lot of red meat, mainly pork and chicken.  He doesn't eat a lot of anything and sweets rarely pass his lips.   Good luck in halting the progression of DH's MS.

Hi & welcome Milly. Judydawn posts some fabulous recipes that my family love so you could probably utilise those for your DH as well.

Funny you should say that because I had already noticed that Judy's recipes are 'David Friendly' (David being my DH's name). In fact I tried one out last night.  ;D

Judy its nice to meet someone who has to cater to a MS diet. We know a few people with MS but no one who follows the low fat diet- let alone take it to the extreme my DH takes it (he tries to eat less than 5g of saturated fat per day).  Sometimes I get recipes from the MS society newsletter- and then I adapt them to the TMX.

Your DH obviously takes full control of what he eats, not many men around would do that.  Most leave it up to the wife and have to be nagged about what is or is not good for them.  I can't force mine to eat if he doesn't want to so give him sustagen hospital strength whenever he knocks food back. He is as thin as a rake but has always been thin and I know some people think I am starving him to death (those who bring blocks of chocolate to him to fatten him up - guess who eats them :-)) :-)))
