Blades
« on: October 03, 2010, 09:50:36 am »
Is it possible to bend the blades on the tm31 while crushing ice? i was making sorbet for the first time and as i put the speed dial up it would stop each time i got to about speed 5-6 as though it was stuck or something, the sorbet turned out but i think i should have defrosted the ice a little before putting it in? and speed up gradually? but i  am concerned if i bent the blade or not I can't  really tell..? Help!!

I'm no expert, but it is meant to cope well with ice blocks and that is how you sharpen the blades. Possibly there was an iceblock caught under a blade.
Hopefully one of our consultant members will be on line soon. They may be more familiar with these things.

It isn't unusual for the blades to stop if something is caught under them - it some times happens to me with bits of carrot or bits of ice.   I presume the machine is set up so it would the blades would stop if this happens rather than forcing them to try to keep going and therefore cause damage.

Maybe the ice was all stuck together? I bang it apart if it is.  I also find it's best just to whiz it up pretty quickly - sometimes if you turn the speed dial up too slowly when it's full of ice, it kind of pauses - works better just to turn it up quickly.

You are meant to add the ice a bit at a time (ie one tray) and help it around with the spatula if it is stuck. Then it should work perfectly.

Think it would be hard to bend the blades with ice.  Not sure, but they take some pretty hard work from me
