Deliciously Different Brussel Sprouts
«
on:

Name of Recipe:
Deliciously Different Brussel Sprouts
Number of People:
4 as side veg
Ingredients:
18 Brussel Sprouts, halved and stem cut off
1 small red onion, quartered
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp butter
1 lemon, juiced
salt and pepper to taste
Preparation:
1. Brown butter and olive oil at Varoma / 4 mins / 2
2. Drop onion onto running blades, speed 5 to chop
3. Add sprouts. Chop at speed 5 for a few seconds, to grate to desired consistency (think mine was about 3 -4 secs)
4. Add lemon juice, sea salt and freshly ground pepper. Stir fry at 100oC / 1.5 mins / speed 1
Photos:
Tips/Hints:
For my first try I stir fried for 2 mins, which (in my opinion) was slightly too much. So my next try will be at 1.5 mins, which I've written here. It may even be as low as 1 minute? Although the sprouts were cooked more than I wanted them to be, they were very nice, and a hit with every member of the family. I thought that I might add some chestnuts with the sprouts next time.
Adapted to TMX from idea at

(60 second brussel sprouts). Original recipe doesn't use an onion.

Thanks Caroline, this has intrigued me as I don't think that the words 'delicious' and brussel sprout' belong in the same sentence!

Oh I love brussel sprouts! During the season we buy them from a roadside stand along our road. I normally love them in a creamy curry but I will definitely have to give this recipe a go next season.

We love brussel sprouts. This looks a lovely way to have them. I would never have thought of doing anything like this to them.

I bought some brussel sprouts this morning and we're having it for dinner as one of our vegies.

I am gunna try this!
I converted my family to Brussel Sprouts by throwing some in the bottom tray under a Weber Kettle roast with 45mins to 1 hour left in cook time. We now, and I did some last night, put some in a vege pan in the oven with some EVOO when having a roast. Our family is now too big to put the veges under the Roast in the Weber Kettle cause we just can not get in the quantity required.
Now they all love Brussel Sprouts.

These are really nice and enjoyed by everyone in the house including the children. It's the only way I serve them now.
