Summary of Best Brands to Buy and Shopping Tips

Hi everyone, I'm another Thermomix newbie! I'm finding while I love my thermomix, I'm spending so much time verifiying EDC recipes, then going to the shops to buy all these new ingredients! I thought we could create a summary of best brands to buy for as many ingredients. Could you help?!!

For example:
Baking Flour - Laucke
Yeast -
Cream for Butter (min 35% fat content) -
Risotto - Not sunbeam


If you know the best place to buy bulk (or any other shopping tips) that would be great too! (i'm in Bentleigh, Melbourne) Eg
Dried Mixed Mushrooms (for risotto) - Sth Melbourne Market

Hi mei, welcome to the forum.  I've never been a 'buy by brand name' type of person except for a few items so I don't have a problem buying my ingredients - it is just the more obscure ones which take a bit of finding in the store or having to travel further to source them.  I know others do have special places they always buy particular ingredients though so you are bound to get some replies to help you out.  Lovely that you have joined us, have fun with your TMX.

Same as JD, in fact I tend to buy homebrand where ever I can as it is usually a top end product in plain packaging I've found. I use Defiance bread flour (and would use whatever the store had because there is not much of a choice). I have been told by my GL that "Principe" brand arborio rice is one of the best and is Italian. When buying corn flour look for the flour made with corn, not wheat. You'll probably find that its the home brand one!

I like lighthouse strong bakers' flour for making bread, and definitely an italian arborio or carneroli(sp?).
