Hello from an Older Newbie

I'm an older (70) new starter with TM. At first glance this site seems like a mine of info on practicalities, tips, and I hope recipes. My main aim is to make a dietary difference for my wife who has recently had some health issues. I'll be looking for simple recipes likely to help in putting on rather than taking weght off. So far the TM is working a treat!

Hi ColT. Lovely to have you with us. I'm sure you will be able to find lots of lovely things on the forum to help your wife put on weight. There are heaps of lovely soups, breads and of course main meals, desserts, cakes and biscuits. A big welcome to you too.

Hi Col, welcome to the forum. You will find everything you need on this forum and if it is not there, just ask and we will see if we can help you out. Yours is an unusual problem, the reverse of most of us and I wish you well in finding the types of recipes you have in mind. We usually tell people who are watching their weight to NOT go to the cake and dessert section but in your case, maybe that doesn't apply
Sounds like your DW is in good hands having a husband like you.

Welcome ColT - this is a great site and we have loads of members with good ideas, recipes, hints and tips to help you. I'm sure you will find it a goldmine; as Judydawn said, usually we are all trying to lose weight, but there are a lot of members with specific dietary requirements and I am sure you will find a lot of inspiration. We wish you both well and happy cooking.

Hello Colt,
There is no age issue with a Thermomix. I can attest to that. I am looking to a healthy diet based on the Cyndie O'Meara concept. Well at least 70% of the time which means that I can visit the desserts sometimes. I am going to make nut butter today which is a very deffinate way to pile on weight. How come a lettuce leaf does not have the same attraction?

Hi colT - welcome!
The Thermomix is ideal for health issues - cooking from scratch is soo easy - you know exactly what is going into your food - no more additives! As far as putting weight on I wouldn't recommend binging on all the high sugar deserts - never conducive to health even if you do put on a few kilos, but just simple wholesome cooking - which the EDC is full of.
I would also recommend drinking lots of green smoothies - these are great for weight loss AND weight gain as they feed your body with the most nutritiously dense food on the planet. Being able to make the perfect green smoothie was why I bought my TM in the first place!
I have a video of me making one here -
http://embracebetterhealth.com.au/greensmoothie.htm
not in TM, but you get the idea – only thing I would add when doing it in TM is to add ½ tray ice cubes with your greens at beginning to make a fully emulsified drink.
Good luck and let us know how you go!

coIT, you are going to have so much fun with your TMX I am an "older" person, although i don't feel it , and probably don't act my age.
I have had my TMX for nearly 2 years, and am sure that we eat better. Find out what your wife really likes and convert the recipes. If you can't we will all help you.
