Free Tasting
« on: July 30, 2011, 02:49:44 am »
I just popped into the supermarket down the street for some milk and noticed a free tasting available at the check out with signs saying “Try Some”, “It’s Free”, You’ll love it”, etc.   It was a lovely, dark, moist looking mud cake.  I used to love the mud cake from this supermarket many years ago so decided to treat myself to a free sample.  Talk about disillusioned!!!  Now that I use the TMX for my baking and am used to good fresh products and quality chocolate, etc. this old favourite tasted really unpleasant to me – I would guess perhaps a mix of chemicals and artificial additives possibly didn’t help.  It has certainly cured me of any temptation to buy one of these cakes “for old time’s sake”.

I would have to be desperate to buy a cake, we can whip them up in no time.  I do have to smile when someone visits and brings something from a bakery - it's like taking coal to Newcastle isn't it  :D  I know the lady who mans the free tasting stall so we usually have a good old chat but she rarely gets a sale out of me.

I know what you mean, as a family we used to love Walkers Shortbread.  Bought a packet to snack on in Bali, they were awful compared to what we are used to from the TM, and to think I only bought my TM at the end of march, but taste buts are now only used to the best.

You are definitely right. No more bought snacks.

I know what you mean. I don't buy any biscuits or cakes anymore and if I'm at a meeting where there's only bought stuff, I sometimes succumb and am always disappointed, too sweet and awful texture.
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

It's true, being a TMX owner raises the bar somewhat!  I was making vege stock concentrate last night and husband walked through and said that smells divine.  I told him that it was just stock concentrate and said how much better it was to use that than stock cubes with hundreds of unknown ingredients in it. (Clearly he hasn't twigged about what the greeny brown sludge in a jar in the fridge is!) He paid me the most lovely compliment, saying how lucky our family was that I was so interested in cooking as it meant that we ate so much lovely healthy food!  I said how lucky I was to have a tmx (a christmas surprise for me) as it makes it so much easier to provide said food.

I (in total desperation) the other week bought from the Royal Perth Hospital a muffin so that I could take some tablets.

As I was eating it, it tasted sooo disgusting but I persevered as I needed to have my tablets. I couldn't finish it so just put it back in the pack and in my bag...

Later I was feeling that ill that I investigated the packet further (already knowing I wasn't going to like what I saw) only to find it had 20 (YES 20!!!!) numbers in it. I was so sick that day, I actually come home and was vomiting and had the runs. Thought I was going to be sick all through my sisters new car (she wasn't impressed lol)

DH although sympathetic reminded me that I should know better  :-)) :-))

Kathryn, what a terrible experience.  We can do without that sort of stress in our lives - I know exactly how it feels "holding" something inside until you can get home - your whole system goes into 'panic' mode and you get tunnel vision that sees only the toilet door!

Take care.

Oh Marina that is exactly what it was like!!  :-[ :-[ After about an hour or so of purging my poor body I was fine - which just proved my point that my body felt it was poisoned by all that crap.

CP I was appalled that I could not buy anything fresh from that cafe - it was either deep fried or prepackaged crap like you get at the servo's in the middle of nowhere. Could have been sitting there for ever as the other thing I discovered was there was no packing, or used by dates on it *shudder*

Thank goodness for all that our TMX does for all our health is all I can say - even if you aren't a fanatic on the health front you still benefit  ;D ;D
