using oil in the thermomix
« on: October 16, 2011, 01:52:32 pm »
Hello everyone. I have had my thermomix for a few days and have tried making juices, salads and stir frys. My only question is do i have to use the amount of oil in the recipes? It seems so much and when i made the stir fry it was glistening with oil.
Would appreciate some help with this.

Thanks again

Hi and welcome to the forum northie41. I find many recipes are a little heavy handed with the fats and oils,try cutting the amount down to suit your taste.Experiment but take note, so next time you make it, you will remember what you did.Another possibly is to read the reviews on the forum of recipes that members have made from the cookbooks.

As everyone has said it is trial and error.  Do what CC says and record what you do so that you can make it again next time.  I never do and always forget.  Usually 20g is enough for most of my cooking needs.

Hi Northie, welcome to the forum.  You will learn to just do your own thing and go with what you think is right for you once you get used to the machine.  Less oil, less chopping times, bigger cubes of meat - just some of the things you learn along the way.

you are always learning like the other day I discovered if you chop on speed three large pieces like halfs or quarters of someting you get larger chunks or pieces than on speed 4 or 5..;common sense right but I was surprised that it cut larger and not just slower if you get my meaning..anyway was a lightbulb moment for me  :)

Welcome Northie. Like everyone else I only use about 20g of oil. I usually find I can cut back on sugar too.
