Deceptively delicious

Hi everyone
I am a reader not a poster usually, but ... Have been wondering this for ages.
In the Jessica seinfeld book 'deceptively delicious' she creates these recipes which require 1/2 cups of various pureed vegetables, to 'hide' in kid friendly foods like brownies and cupcakes.
But I'm wondering why they need to be cooked before being pureed?
Do you think you could just whizz it up in the tmx and then straight into the cake or other mixture?
I have tried it a few times and it's been fine.
But wanted to see if Anyone had any experience or advice.
Thanks all

If you've tried it and it worked monkeymadness, you've answered your own question. I have to agree with you, why cook them if you can just grate them in or chop them up in the TMX. If you can use either, then that is even better as there are often leftover cooked vegies in the fridge.

I would have thought if you hadn't already cooked the vegs then it would be better not to as that way you don't lose as much of the goodness from the veg.
On the other hand, some veg do have a lot of water content (eg courgettes) and so if you don't cook them, you may need to take this into account when mixing your cakes or whatever

Thanks katya and Judy.
I was worried about the difference in moisture, between cooked and raw veggies.
Might have to keep experimenting ...

My kids know when i have hid veges in chocolate brownies, and won't then eat them.

Perhaps they saw you sneaking them in at one time and now can tell the difference Robyn - clever little people.

My kids can usually sniff them out too! Very frustrating when they do.

Its just that I bake them so much from scratch they can tell the difference if I do something different.
As soon as i make a normal recipe, they eat it all up.
I have smart kids.

Oh that's a shame obbie & moo2.
I am always trying new recipes so they have no idea when veggies have been snuck in. mwah ha ha ha!
(welll .. Except for the green smoothies. They're a dead giveaway!)

My kids won't eat brownies with vegies in them either. I must admit I am not convinced that there is any great nutritional benefit in adding small amounts of vegies to baked goods. Many of Jessica's recipes only have 1/2 a cup of cooked vegies in them and that is spread through the whole batch. Each serve would probably only have 1 tsp of vegies in them and a great deal of other not so good ingredients.
