Soaking a Thermomix - good or bad?
« on: November 07, 2011, 04:51:08 am »
Just wondering if anyone knows if there is a guideline in the Thermomix operations manual about whether it is safe to soak a Thermomix overnight in the sink.  I had thought not.

I know someone whose Thermomix base fused to the top while it was soaking and I don't quite understand whether the soaking was the problem or perhaps it was too hot beforehand and had got stuck before it was left to soak.

I've researched soaking on here but not found any previous guidance. Any ideas, please, colleagues?

Do you mean the bowl,  not attached to the base.?   I have never had the need to soak the bowl,  blade attached,  for more than 1/2 an hour.   I know this is going to surprise most members,  but I only take the blades out about once a month.  No it is not dirty when I remove it.  Must be a very good fit.

The bowl, blades and base (still attached) were left to soak overnight.  I am burying my head in the manual looking for the reference but haven't found the rule yet.  I just had a hunch that dishwasher was fine but soaking was not and I'm not sure if that hunch was justified.

i always pour some water into my bowl if i don't have time to wash my bowl straight away to prevent the food from drying and making cleaning impossible and haven't had any problems, touch wood.

I'll check later but I'm sure I read somewhere not to soak it as it affected the rubber ring in the blades.

Just checked-this may have been what I saw. Page 37 of the instruction manual.

"Do not leave the mixing knife in dish water for a long time as this may damage the gasket system of the knife bearing."

THANK YOU, Chookie, Thermoheaven and Cookie, for your helpful comments.  I'm glad to have that reference, too, Cookie.  Much appreciated.
