Hi again
I am a busy bee these days, aren't I?
Well this time I was checking some gingerbread recipes. I saw an ingredient called 'golden syrup'
I would like to ask you what it is exactly..
Thank you...

Golden Syrup is a by-product of sugar making. You could substitute treacle.

Thank you meganjane
I will look for both and use the one I can find around here
The consistency of them is the same?
Like honey or agave syrup?

They're both a bit thicker than honey or agave. I'm sure it wouldn't matter if you substituted honey.

There is an English Brand of Golden Syrup. I think the brand is Lyle's. I see it in my local store sometimes.
It has a very similar taste to Australian Golden Syrup but has a thicker consistency.
It would probably be interchangeable.
Maple Syrup would be another alternative but may be a bit too runny. Golden Syrup has a very distinctive flavour and I think I would prefer maple syrup to the other alternative Karo Syrup. This is an American Corn Syrup I think

Thank you RosieB
It was very infroming.
I heard some people using maple syrup instead of Golden syrup because they can't easily find golden syrup in italy.
I will try my chance with big supermarkets and organic shops.

I don't know what it costs in Italy, but maple syrup is very expensive here in Australia.
Honey would not make a great substitute as it will not have the depth of flavour of golden syrup or treacle.

Golden Syrup is a thick sugar based syrup with caramelly flavours. You could use honey, corn syrup etc. if you can't get hold of it; just the flavour of whatever you're making will be different. I'd avoid treacle as a replacement because that has a very strong mollases flavour. Happy experimenting.

Maple syrup is expensive also around here
I guess also golden syrup would be expensive, you know, it would be one of those rare products so the price woul be high
I will check out an organic supermarket for golden syrup
if I cant find even there.. dunno... i will try to mix some caramel flour into some honey
