I don't actually have a thermomix yet... But it's only a matter of time...

 I have actually joined to take part in the great thread on dehydrating, as I just got a dehydrator. I hope to share some dehydrating experiences with those of you who have been chatting about it!

Hi Tsr, welcome to the forum.  It's nice to have a dehydrator but it's even better having a Thermomix    Look forward to hearing of your experiences with your dehydrator, not that I have one myself but many on here do. Hope it's not going to be too long before you purchase a TMX, you will certainly whet your appetite with all the recipes on here.

Welcome Tsr, I do have a dehydrator I've had it about 18 years, it usually surfaces every year for semi dried tomatoes, but over the years I have dried just about everything, some successfull others not so.  Try some watermelon and rock melon (cantelope)  they are yummy.   I did make some yogurt roll ups but they need eating reasonable soon after making they got really sticky and the fruit one  sort of weeped but its all trial and error and lots of fun, my daughter has a lend of it at the moment she is into beef jerky and is going to make some.   We have made heaps of this over the years all different flavours.  Save up for a TMX then you will be in cooking heaven.

I have just bought a new dehydrator to replace one that died after about 15 years of hard work.
I bought an EziDry as my old Harvest Maid trays fit perfectly .   
Today I bought two 15kilo boxes of bananas at our local market and my next job is to peel, split and get them into the dehydrator.
30 kilos of bananas for $20 I thought was too good to pass up, and the way DH and DGS munch through dried banana...  Well it keeps me busy.   
I tried the rockmelon that was discussed on here and will be making more of that as well.  It is so much better than I had expected...

Welcome to the forum tsr. I don't have a dehydrator but I must read the thread - sounds interesting.
Hopefully the forum will whet your appetite for a thermomix, even if it doesn't there are still great recipes that you could use in the food processor. That's what I did until I purchased my thermomix.
Rosie - that sure is a lot of bananas - do they turn out as well as the store bought ones?

We prefer the bananas dried in the dehydrator to the ghastly tateless Banana chips that are sold in stores.
The 'chips' are cut across the banana to give circles and I don't know what they do to them to make them crisp?
If you buy in health stores you may get the 'banana boats' which we make.  Sliced or split lengthwise and dried to a chewy texture.
Really sweet and caramely (if that is a word) and nothing added unless you dip in lemon juice to help keep them a creamy colour.

The banana boat shaped dried bananas are my favourite Rosie, I bought myself a big packet of them when we visited Angas dried fruit factory in Angaston before Christmas and I am slowly working my way through them - don't like those crisp round ones at all.

I've never tried the long dried banana. I really dislike the round hard stuff. I'm still thinking about a dehydrator. I didn't know you could do watermelon and rockmelon. I imagine they would be lovely.
