Very interesting article.  I'm not sure I could do it for that long these days - since having my tmx I don't have as much in the cupboard really, except more spices.  I actually have a half empty drawer that used to house all my spices, sachets, stocks etc.  Not sure what else really, but it was full to overflowing.  And my pantry shelves have more space now too.

But I could possibly do a couple of weeks if I planned my meals more carefully (I have a bit of a stock of cans, and more of a variety of rices and pastas than I "need" which I could plan around).

I think I will do this or something similar (maybe the $21 challenge so I can still get some milk & vege/fruit).

I've ordered this week's shopping already though - $127  ;D

I love the $21 week challenge.

I am meal planning now each week, and find that helps cut the $$ down too. :)

Wow Obbie ...$400  :o :o :o
I manage to keep under $100/ week pretty often, but it does take alot of forward planning and careful shopping....and of course using my TM more and more!  :)
Hoping not to have to go this week, school holidays- the thought of taking 4 kids to the supermarket does not appeal!! And I have menu planned with what we have in the fridge, freezer and pantry so I should get thru.....

I've blown the budget this week too. $230!!
We were planning to go away for a few days with relatives, but the holiday homes we were trying to get are all booked out.  And of course I'd already gone and bought some special treats for all of us (e.g bacon, eggs and hashbrowns, some chips, crackers and cheese...).  And I also got some bulk supplies of rice and sugar as it was so much cheaper than smaller sizes.

I will be well stocked for a few weeks now.

Yes Astarra, DH buys fancy cheeses, crackers, olives, salamis, poppers for kids, extra ice cream, lots of spices, and 1/2 lamb again ( on special), it adds up quick.

Since going back to work in august & having a shocking run with the whole family with illness with my daughter starting child care I've got a bit off track with this challenge.  The article & this post is a great reminder I have too much in the pantry & freezer.

Our week ends today and the total is $107 which is great as our budget is $120.00 - it included socks for DH (of course)  :-))
can't complain he loves his socks and also a mascara for me as well as all our usual cleaning products and toiletries. Very happy with that.  ;D

What does he do with all those socks Michele  ???  Does he have a drawer full of socks he no longer wears?

Judy, DH has more drawer space than I do. He has a smaller drawer for best socks - ones he wears with his suits etc. A semi dressy/casual drawer for better socks and for sports socks mostly white and a drawer for work socks.

Actually I'm surprised he didn't show off his socks to you at Chookie and Ral's (I think poor KarenH and Wonder, ? Kimmy and Deedub had to suffer through that) they are very special though - our lovely and very talented Marie knitted them for him.

How sweet of Marie and who better than your DH to give them to  ;D  One person you know who would appreciate such a gift.

They are just such  treat for DH - his new favourites. Marie even gave me some leftover wool so I can darn them. I have never darned socks before and I think it will be many many years before I have to find out as the quality is superb.

And here they are: they look a bit purply but really are a lovely variegated brown.
