Made this earlier in the week and forgot to post that we thoroughly enjoyed it! I used full cream milk. Lovely soup JD, and will definitely make this one again  :-*

We've had this three times in the past two weeks. My hubby loooves it and we usually end up groaning on the sofa in a post-prandial stupor, in pain from overeating.

I usually add some spinach and ricotta fresh pasta into the soup to make it a fuller meal. We've just had it again tonight!

Also if you don't have caramelised garlic paste handy, we use Odette's Onion Jam from Super Kitchen Machine in smaller quantities, just takes an extra 15 minutes before starting the soup. :)

Lovely recipe, and so good for our budget, thank you.

Thanks for the excellent recipe.

This soup went down very well with my wife and children and reminded me of the lovely Heinz Cream of Tomato Soup I used to have as a child back in England.....only much better.

All the best,Jim

Have to give this a try, particularly if its a bit like Heniz's Cream of Tomato soup (which I love but is craZy expensive here compared to the UK)

Though first I need to get a hold of Tenina's book so I can make the garlic paste.

Hi ya rob

I didn't have the recipe for the garlic paste so I just added some garlic salt.  The soup is delish!

I'm lucky enough to have For Foods Sake now and have the recipe for the garlic paste. So now ill be able to make the full version of the soup but it was really really good even without it.

does it need the milk? would love to give it a go but need it to be dairy free and not sure how almond milk in it would go?

The milk/cream breaks down the richness of the tomatoes fruity so I really think it would need that addition.  Perhaps make half a batch and try the almond milk.  If you use almond milk in everything you do, the taste would be to your liking and it should do the job.

Fruity, maybe try rice milk.  I'm not sure the almond taste would compliment the tomatoes

Thank you, I am not at all keen on rice milk, but am thinking the almond milk wouldn't sit right with it. :((
