Wait until our winter sales Yvette and you will get a jacket much cheaper.
Is it a dressy jacket or just something to keep you warm?
You could get something that's suitable for ski-ing as they tend to keep the cold and wind out and are waterproof as well.
Where in Europe are you going?

Thanks MF we have just booked the flight for now as we had enough frequent flyer points for 3 return airfares. We will do London and still deciding on the rest. We went back in 2009 so will try and do different places, maybe Spain and other parts of Italy. We are also stopping in Dubai for 3 nights on the way home.

MF it will be a jacket to keep very warm but not too heavy to carry around that's why I thought the down jackets would be good

Sounds great Yvette  ;D Is your DD going to work there? I think the down jacket would be fine. Maybe CC our DJ will suggest the best type. I haven't lived there since 1981 and the weather pattern there has changed. Have you been to France? Italy and France are my two favourites in Europe followed by Greece and Switzerland.
Quite a few of us are going to Europe this year. We are going towards the end of August. Having just over 3 weeks in Italy then a stopover in Copenhagen  on our way to Moscow where we are meeting friends and doing a river cruise with them from Moscow to St Petersburg.
We may have to change our dates and flights  as a close  friend is getting married in Dublin either before our trip or just after. We found this out 3 days after booking our flights and all acommodation etc.  :( Our DS is I the bridal party.

That sounds lovely MF pain if you have to change the tickets.

DD will work there she is a midwife so she will check if work is available once the agency comes back on line, it has been down or something. She has a friend over there at the moment she is a teacher, so my DD contacted that agency and they told her there would be work every day if she wanted as a teachers aide.

She has also done a personal training course so could work as that if need be too.

We went to Italy and France last time so we could do some different things there too.

She should get a job I nursing Yvette as my DD's friend has been nursing there for a few years now and has be er had a problem.
Wherever you choose to go it will be wonderful and I always get a lot of fun out of planning.
If the wedding is before or after our trip we will go but if it's during then we won't be going as too much time and effort has gone into it .
I love Europe but wouldn't want to live there as we are so fortunate to live in this beautiful country  ;D

Most Aussie winter gear is too light so I suggest layers lol unless your lucky enough to find good winter gear..the wind is the killer and well below temps.. So just rug up.. Scarfs, beanies or winter hats, gloves and a jacket big enough you can wear enough layers underneath.. We found jackets from oz too light and no where near warm enough when mum sent some over yet local jackets were warm enough to just have a long sleeve top under and maybe a light zip up jacket/Cardy..

Can your daughter but you jackets?? There are so many around before winter hits?? Prob easier..

No problem MF not many people know about the course it only started about 5 years ago and they only take about 50 applicants.

Thanks Kim I thought the Oz stuff would be not warm enough. DD could get something but I would rather pick something myself.
I have been researching the net and found a place (ON line shopping) called Land's End. Have you heard of it or do you know any other sites?

No but the uk girls might .. We always bought our coats at the local stores.. They are sold everywhere so didn't need to look online..

If you found a photo of style and colour I'm sure your dd could get what I wanted .. If not sites like la reroute and 3 suisses which I think are also dispo in English sell a range of winter coats ..
