Uni, my deepest sympathy and condolences to you MIL. It's certainly been a very hard time for her.

It is hard when children step in and take over all the decision making.  I think that happens for any number of reasons. Maybe a quiet word from the right person might help... There's plenty they can do to help and also be sensitive to  your MIL's wishes.
