Thats the plan gert .. Our gp said she will have him all sorted by the next few months before we leave for oz.. I did go to the shops 'special diets section yesterday though and found sor sugar free biscuits etc.. Havent had time to experiment with thermie so hope thy arent too bad so when he feels like it he can have something sweet...  Gp did say that if he really needs to i can bake using rapadura only but only if neccessary and only a little!

Gert and Frozzie - once  you get diabetes, can you be cured or do you then always have it?

Kim, it seems one thing after another going wrong for your poor DH (and you who has to do the cooking and work out what he can and cannot have).  Buggar  :-* :-*

Marina no once you have diabetes it's for life or so I'm told but I'm no expert on the subject....apparently your pancreas is damaged and no longer treats sugar as it should so you need to watch your sugar levels as the excess sugar that your body can't treat gets used by bad bacteria etc and that's when disease and cancer can come into the picture., the thing about diabetes is that often you don't even know you have it until something bad happens ...dh is lucky in the sense that it was caught by accident and now it's just diet control..

Jd I know.. Our level of handling crappy events has seriously diminished.. Only 3 and a half months to go til oz and only 2 months until my parents and brother are over for one last French hoorah lol! 2012 is def a year I will never forget!

Sorry for hijacking the thread  :-))

Yeah, a lot of people do have it and it is becoming more and more common, which is very unfortunate :( I just asked because I may have been able to give you some tips if he was type 1, since I cook for a type 1 diabetic several times a day :-))

I think thé base is thé same just type2 is caused from diet or lack of it plus stress etc and type one is insuline dépendent and génétic if ive got that right but like i said its all new.. Would def be interested in what you use as substitutes or you dOnt and just use recipes that ate suitable or à cookbook you havé found useful?? I thought diet wise its pretty much thé same no nO's foodwise.. Its very very strict at thé moment as there is alot hé cant have .. After im not sure but for thé moment on bread or dough of any kind so on quiches, pizza etc no potato or cooked carrot, nô Rice pasta etc, no sugar of any kind , fruit is limited but apparently apples are Ok...for thé moment it has just been méat and veg until i CAN look into it more as apparently hé CAN havé as much protein and veg as hé likes..

Morning all

Frozzie - good luck working out DH's diet, not easy to change a life time of eating habits.

Uni and Gert, get onto the waiting lists - life is too short to be dealing with pain and discomfort.

Had a great day today, the sun was shining, managed to great both kids in bed at the same time and spent some quality time with DH - very rare these days.  It was nice to talk about us.
