I used to love Guy Fawkes night when I was a kid Denise, huge bonfires and controlled fireworks behind a fish and chip shop just down the road from our place and some harmless crackers to let off in our own backyard.  Banned years ago though.

I remember Guy Fawkes day as a kid. We used to go into the small town near the farm and there would be a big bonfire and our parents had bought crackers etc for us. Someone always seemed to get injured though. DH tells me as a kid they used to put penny bombs peoples letter boxes and run away. Naughty city kids.

I remember being scared of the crackers, but I don't really remember when it stopped.

I remember running around with sparklers. Dad would always set off the crackers, we weren't allowed to touch them. Sensible dad.

They certainly make a lot of noise and can hurt people quite badly.

We had a huge bonfire in our yard and set of crackers; don't ever remember anyone getting hurt there. Dad probably get a very close eye on what we were doing. It was good fun building the bonfire and all the anticipation of the night.

Need to be so careful with fire crackers, about 10 years ago at family NYE party all hell breaks loose

my sister ended up in hospital, and over a month in bed at home

i burnt my chest

my young niece was very lucky that her legs were apart, the cracker went through them and landed on my sister's stomach

no more firecrackers for me.

i don't need a recipe i'm italian

That's scary, Uni.  These things happen so quickly.

When we were little we lived just a kilometre or two from the beach where there was always a controlled bonfire so we would go there with our sparklers.  I don't remember any accidents, fortunately.  Sometimes we had sky rockets in our backyard too, but our father had full control of them.  Never had crackers, I suspect my mum put her foot down about them.

Fireworks were fun (still have them in NZ each year as far as I'm aware) but not that exciting as they were sort of easy come easy go.  :o
I know that sounds terribly ungrateful, but they don't excite me any more  :o

DH on the other hand says every year that our next trip to NZ should be early November for guy fawks night  ;D

Morning all.
Uni, that is truely awful.
We had lots of fire crackers each year.  Dad was very strict about which ones we had.  We loved the Catherine Wheels that were nailed to the fence and would go around and around.  I still put sparklers on the kids Birthday cakes.
Thick fog today and taking GD home.  Will miss her.
We have had 1  1/2 inches of rain.  Lovely, but then I don't have to walk the dog.
GD found 2 baby birds that had either blown or fallen out of nests. She put them in the veggie patch for a bit of protection. Also have a baby Echidna looking for ants around the house.

Good morning everyone.  Raining here again.
