Sounds good Amy it's always nice to get away and have a change of scenery and environment.
That's why I am taking my mum away as she lives alone since my dad died. I took her to Queenstown last year and she loved it  :)

That will be lovely for your mum MF, what a nice thing to do :D
I hope I can get up earlier to meet you :)

She is very lonely Amy so I try to see her as often as I can and take her shopping a couple of times a week.
She enjoys coming to my place as she can see some of the little ones and she also loves my dogs.
I cook soups for her and pies but she is very fussy and won't eat any what she calls "foreign food" so that rules out a lot of my cooking!!!
When I make a roast or a barbeque she comes for dinner. So sad to see her so lonely. She had never been to NZ so that's why I took her there last year. She is very excited about going again  :)

Look forward to meeting you if you can get up earlier  :D

Does she live in her own house or in a nursing home? I'm sure she appreciates everything you do for her, even if she doesn't like "foreign" food!! That reminds me a little bit of my grandpa. He likes his good old fish and chips and bolognese on toast :-)) But I think he would eat anything edible. When you're brought up like he was, you don't let anything go to waste no matter how bad it is.
Its sad that so many older people are lonely. Its not good for their health. I wish something could be done about it :-\

I'll look up the bus departure dates and see what I can come up with :D

MF, it's great what you do for your DM and I can understand how she enjoys coming over to see the children etc.  Is she a member of any club?  It's so sad when our oldies lose their mates and are lost souls as a result of it.  Having people around her of the same age group would lift her spirits but I understand some of our parents are just not into these sorts of things.  That's where I think retirement villages have a lot going for them in that there is something going on a few times a week at least for them to become involved in and form friendships.  What a wonderful daughter you are  :-* :-*

Mum lives in her own house Amy. She moved to a new townhouse close to railway station after dad died as she doesn't drive and she wasn't close to public transport. She enjoys catching the train into the city some days as she needs to get out of the house.
We moved house to be closer to her as my brother lives in Mandurah and only visits her once a fortnight.
She is finding it hard without dad as they met when she was 18 and were married for 58 years.
I see her most days but can't see her everyday.
Mum is the fussiest food person ever!!! No joke and won't try anything new. It drives us all insane but she won't change now. Lol

She is no longer a member of a club Judy but another Scottish widow lives a few houses down from mum so they have spend 2 evenings a week together chatting and playing cards and go out on a Sunday. Sadly all mums friends have passed away so this neighbor is the only friend she has now.
We tried for years to get mum and dad into a retirement village but dad was very stubborn and refused to move. It's a pity because mum would have loved it and would have had plenty of friends and activities. Too late now though  :(
You hit the nail on the head JD as mum is a "lost soul" now  :(

MF we have my Mum and Dad next door to us, so they can be independent, but we see them every day.

Do jobs they can't do. Help with anything they need. Cooking for them is so easy, just deliver next door. If I make cakes, slices, biccies, I can share.

And Robyn, if you run out of freezer space you can just pop next door and fill up mum's freezer as well.  :)
