I like the snow in movies when people are dancing in it. That always makes me smile :)

Have you ever seen the movie Fargo? One of my favourites.

I don't mind the snow as long as I don't have to go out in it now.  I can stay warm inside with a glass of wine, good book and a nice meal cooking in the slow combustion oven.  To me, everything looks so clean when it is covered in snow, the lake where we used to go always looked a deeper blue in contrast with the snow down to the water line.  When the children were small we had a lot of fun playing in the snow.  I often thought it was colder down from the mountains with the wind blowing off the snow than actually being in it.  Those were the days...

Wet  mittens, Snow down your boots. Chilblains.  Nose warmers. Frostbite on our ears. Black ice and cuts and bruises from accidents. Filthy slush when it starts to melt.  Losing your watch and not finding it until Spring.... Dead.

Oh Gert, I was just reminiscing and getting a little carried away  and gee you soon brought me back to earth.  Yes, I agree about the accidents.  I am still carrying the injury (swollen knee) from falling on black ice over 30 years ago.  It is still giving me trouble and for that reason our stays in the snow country are only a memory.   :D

Made me laugh too as brought back memories of living in Scotland . Dark winter mornings going to school dressed to look like a Michelin man then almost dark when coming home at 4pm.
The first snow fall always looked good but the slush and black ice disgusting and dangerous.

We now go to Queenstown late spring and early autumn when the mountains still have snow on the peaks  and lovely sunny days where a light jumper and jeans are sufficient. Gives us our snow ,mountains and lakes fix as that's what we miss about the homeland.
My kids and their families love it there in the ski season but they have spent almost their entire lives in the sunshine by the beach so they love the contrast  :)

Karen how very exciting. We heard on the radio that is was 10 degrees at midday or something similar. We thought we were coming in summer!

I would hate to live somewhere where I had to deal with snow on a regular basis, but I would, at least once, like to have a week's holiday in the snow. I remember as a child, when I lived in Tassie,  it snowed in our backyard just the once. I also remember mum driving us up to Mt Wellington when it w snowing and trying hard to find enough snow to make a snowball to throw at my brothers.
As adults, DH and I found a couple of patches of snow at the top of the ski fields  in Queenstown, NZ, in the middle of summer, and scrabbled up the top of the mountain to find a really patchy, melting drift of snow. it was his first experience of snow, and it was a little disappointing as it was really icy..luckily we found a mountain on the North Island which was running its ski lift in the middle of summer. There was actually enough snow to go tobogganing at this one. I remember that I was wearing shorts and the snow was really cold, but it was really, really fun. DH only did one tobogganing run as he was wearing sandals and it was too cold on his feet.

I love holidaying in NZ when it is snowing.
We go to Hanmer Springs, nothing like sitting in the hot springs and watching it snow, surrounded by mountains. It doesn't quite reach you as the steam from the hot springs melts it at about roof height. Very romantic.
