Doctors surgery opens at 9 so will ring them then to find out what they think. She won't like the injection but better than getting sick.

Morning everyone. Looks like we are in for a beautiful day here today :)
My DD stabbed her self last night with a pitchfork in the big toe. Nothing to serious but I'm going to ring the doctors surgery shortly to find out if she needs a tetanus needle today or wait till Monday.  Her toe is pretty swollen and sore. Poor thing it would of hurt. She was digging for worms for DS who was going fishing :)
Not a good start to the weekend Dede, that would hurt.  They will probably want to give her a tetanus shot.

Ooooo that could be nasty. A tetanus booster is warranted.

This morning I am again called to the catwalk to model for TS fashions at their new store in Smithfield.  I have seven outfits to wear and am making considerably less than $10,000 dollar this day.  Still I will soldier on and get out of bed soon.

Dede the tetnus shot has the smallest tiniest shortest thinness needle ever. It is less than a mosquito bite believe me. I would not wait until Monday. Any clinic will do. Then again if she is a youngster she is probably still covered.

Gert

Everybody needs an initial course of three doses of the vaccine, to teach the immune system to recognise the tetanus toxin.
Booster doses are then needed to help keep the body’s memory active. In Australia, children are vaccinated at:
2, 4, and 6 months,
4 years,
and 15-17 years.
Tetanus and diphtheria boosters are no longer recommended every 10 years provided the person has documented evidence that they have completed a full primary course of three injections and at least two booster doses, but a booster dose at 50 years is recommended.
If a person gets a wound that is considered more dangerous than usual, they may need another booster if they have not had one in the last five years.
Who is most at risk from tetanus?
People who have never been immunised.
People who have not had enough doses of the vaccine.
As people get older their immune systems may not work as well. Their immunity to tetanus may decrease if they do not have enough boosters. In Australia, most tetanus occurs in older adults.

Was just reading info about tetanus, DD is 9 and would of had her last tetanus shot at 4, so 5 years ago. Do you think she would be covered or still need a booster?
I'm thinking a booster probably would be a good idea considering a pitchfork is used to dig soil and tetanus can be found in the soil. :(

Yep dede, I would get her a booster.  Such a quick simple injection.  You wouldn't forgive yourself if you didn't and it developed into a full blown tetanus infection - and she hasn't completed a full primary course of injections yet so she may not have full immunity.  I'm not a medical person though so definitely seek medical advice.
