Morning all,

Our ADHD foster child was in & out of bed until 11pm & up at 5.30, where does he get the energy. He spent all aftenon until 7 pm in the pool & playing soccer, had dinner, had a bath, then a shower & would not settle.

We both growled at him & he is in bed yelling he wants to get up, no way too early, its 6am.

Just think of it this way Hally - you are doing a tremendous favour for the lad's Mum (or is it a foster Mum) giving them a full night's rest.  It must be so difficult for them and I imagine they would really appreciate these breaks.  I take my hat off to you for helping them to have what must be a very needed break.

His foster mum is lovely & that is why we do it. She wants every  4-6 weeks, but we have agreed on every 3 months. Well she didnt but we did, lol.

I night this time Kim.

One of the hardest things is keeping him in bed at night.

He hit cp with a water gun yesterday, dh told him off, dh turned his back to check cp, i was in the kitchen with full view of him & he thought no one was looking at whacked cp again.  What we cant understand is why?

He probably can't control himself, Hally.  Don't forget this is a child who needs constant structure and routine - time out at someone else's house throws all that out.  My bet is that if you had him for say a week or so, he'd be a lot better at night.  

Just warn him first:  if he uses anything (e.g., watergun) to hurt anyone, or if he misuses it, it will be taken away.  First time he does it, take it away immediately and no second chances.   I'm not sure verbal reprimands will work with him as he has too much going on inside him - and your son's safety comes first.

Hally these kids just seek attention.. Its alot stronger than them.. They do it any way they can but generally arent mean kids underneath just have alot of issues..you cant try and understand them in the same way a 'non adhd' kid would behave as it wont work..i grew up with a very severe adhd child (my brother) and i could make your head spin with some of the things he did..

I think just be firm without overdoing it and talk to him.. Often these kids are very angry and get jealous too

Very tempting Amy, but its nt teaching them anything.

Worse thing was cp got stung 60 mins earlier & guess where he got hit.

He is still in bed, but dont think I can contain him much longer, he wants to play xbox but he broke it last time. Yesterday he wanted to know why there  were holes in the badminton rackets I told him because you did that last time. Dh told me i was cruel he was laughing, i said no just tell him the truth, no point sugar coating stuff, its not as if this is a one off visit.

Oh the joys, roll on 9.15, 3 hours & counting, lucky cp has soccer this morning

I think attention is a big thing.

He wanted to go back  in the pool, cp didnt, dh & I were sitting right by the pool, the fuss he created because he was lonely in the pool etc was unbelievable, I just told him, he couldnt be lonely we were less than 1 metre from him.

GF, last time he told me he didnt know what time out was, now he does & he dd before, he got 5 mins time out for hitting cp.

Last night at 8pm, dh, cp & me were all in our bed with lights off hoping he would go to sleep. Dh fell asleep by 8.30. We were hooing he woukd fall asleep then cp coukd got to bed, it ddnt work.

How is cp taking it hally?? Its never easy .. Sounds like he is just testing you..

Cp is very good, he understands he has an illness & its nit his fault. They do play nicely together for short periods then the boy just gets too excited. U fortinately he cant sit & watch a movie or anything.
