Slow cooker question. I was expecting interstate visitors today so put my 2.5 kilo silverside into the slow cooker this morning on low. It is pretty much at the yummy stage now at 1630. My visitors are now not arriving until lunch time tomorrow.

Question: Can I turn the slow cooker off leaving the silverside in the slow cooker tonight then turning it  back on low in the morning. To have a meal  for lunch?  Would you do that?

Not sure Gert don't like silverside so I have never cooked it. Hopefully someone will be able to help you.

Hello all, just popped in.

Gert, I agree with Uni.
Cool it and refrigerate. I would fridge the juices too, then heat back up tomorrow.
Bringing the liquid temp up in a pan first is a great idea.

Food hygiene is all about temperature control to stop bacteria growing.

I dreamt about you and Eve last night, uni, how weired is that?

Uni would I then put the cold meat back Into the hot boiled water in the slow cooker?  Or I could just bring the meat back to room temp for lunch .

What a bummer . Friends  tried to get out of Sydney but flight cancelled due to FOG!

This slow cooker is giving me heartburn

I would boil the saved water first Gert and then put the silverside back in on low. You could still do it first thing in the morning. It is very hard to over cook anything in a crockpot.  :)

It was supposed to be me showing off with the good smell , whipping off the top of the pot and voila.  Ummm. Have taken the meat out. Practically no shrinkage after 8 hours. It will go I to the fridge . I have strained the water and it too will go into the fridge to be boiled in the morning then to go into the bloody slow cooker followed by the beef and perhaps some potatoes and cabbage. Or maybe I will have it cold. I am over the slow cooker already. But I also have a bunny in the freezer. That would be good in the cooker. Anyone cooked a rabbit in their crock pot?

Can't see why not Gert, rabbit stew, haven't had it in years. I have a leg of lamb cooking in my slow cooker atm.
I child-proofed my house, but they still get in!

Once I get over this episode I will get that bunny out.  Good with prunes plenty of veg, a few glugs of red. Yum.
