Anything goes for Uni

To be honest uni we have only eaten at a few places... For the moment find there is alot of food that isnt freshly made, overpriced for what it is and what has been recommended by ppl we have been disappointed in.. Have had ppl say places are fabulous then get served tinned or prepared items on a plate andthey dont even notice..huh?? Or food that has no true flavour....it amazes me some places can be so popular and serve what they do... We have NOT yet been to some of the renowned restaurants in sydney though.. But i have to say we are very. Much missing food from our ex hometown of Tours much preferring to stay indoors and cook at home..

I should have asked some of you guys for different suggestions as even recommendations online have been disappointing..

I am not being a foodsnob and dont claim to be an expert in anyway at all lol but we know what we like and were incredibly spoilt for great food and chefs in Tours france... Alot of fresh local produce well presented and prepared and were very rarely disappointed..

I think it comes down to knowing where to go..and it seems we dont as yet lol!

Be careful who you ask. If you think the food is Sydney is bad then you should come to Cairns. Restaurants serve utter crap knowing that their tourist customers won't be returning anyway. Service is crap and the food is crap.  We have lived here 10 years  and have found Maybe 4 restaurants that are acceptable. I have befriended the front of house as well as the chefs. The prices are the same or higher than Sydney and there is no respect for the customers or the food.

Having lived in Sydney for  over 30 years I can assure you there are many wonderful restaurants and chefs but you really need to ask a foodie in the know .  Don't go by the paid reviews  and the paid to advertise books you can buy.  The price is no indication of the quality.  Never ask an American where a good  restaurant is and if you read a review written by a Yank disregard it.

Unfortunately there are too many food rules and regulations not to mention the  high penalty rates paid in restaurants to ever emulate the wonderful food and service you get in France.  Feeding kids in most restaurants is a nightmare.

When I worked in restaurants with and for chefs  I was amazed at what happened in reality in the kitchen. In a country where the waiters get paid more for picking up a plate from the kitchen  and placing it on the table than a nurse gets for her or his duties  what can you expect!  Some wait staff are so up themselves it is a joke. I had to ask one waiter if he was pulling my leg when he was telling me how to eat an artichoke.  Then I told him to bugger off.

 I lived  in Avalon on the northern beaches and we were spoiled for choice of good eating places. Look for the Chef I say and follow him or her.

Eating out is an expensive business and we are allowed to be picky. When we are paying $40 for a simple steak we SHOULD  ask where it came from and not be told the fridge.  If we are paying $20 for a sliver of cheese it had better not be  Kraft.

I wasn't saying sydney doesn't have good food.. I'm sure there are some great restaurants just we haven't found them.. Yet

Any suggestions from locals would be appreciated.. At least on here there should be alot more ppl who know good food and where it's at..

I always think August (apart from the winds) is a great month. In NSW we get the false start to spring. Always the 3rd/4th week gets quite warm only to turn cold again the beginning of September. Even in Gracetown last year the days were lovely and warm.

On the other side of the bridge from you but I can recommend cafe Sopra @ fratelli fresh and Kepos Street Kitchen

I find that Sydney can overlook average food if the coffee is good and it has a view

I found a place that had nice coffee or nicer than other places around here.. A number of not great coffee places i seem to have come across lol.. It was in willoughby ..penthurst st.. No ordinary cafe..
