Stile is an unusual word for us Aussies but not if you read Jane Austin novels and the Bronte sisters novels. Gorgeous picture CC

We have stiles here in Victoria.  Probably because the paddocks are smaller and farmers don't want to put a gate on several sides of the paddock. CC lovely photo.
Congratulations Team Aussie.  These young people have a very bright future here in Australia.  We already have so many good cooks and Chefs that it is a wonderful training ground for young people.  Then off OS for further experience.
Cold and showers today.  Good day for baking.

Good Morning all.  :)

MF, congratulations to your GD and her team. What a great effort.

CC, love the photo.  Our DS has a stile on his property.  The GD's use it to climb the fence to catch the school bus.
The  man who said it can't be done should not interupt the woman doing it.

Didnt the nursery rhyme "Crooked man walk a crooked mile. .. something something something stile"? That's the only time I've heard the word before :)

That's one I used to sing to the kids.
From memory:

There was a crooked man who walked a crooked mile
He found a crooked sixpence right by a crooked stile
He bought a crooked cat
Which caught a crooked mouse
And they all lived together in a little crooked house.

There were lots of stiles where I grew up in the UK, and they did get very slippery in th rain.
We also had " kissing gates", which I used to think meant that you could walk through whilst locked in embrace with your partner. The truth is nowhere near as romantic, as the edges of the gate just touch or kiss the fence on either side.

Beauty is only fur deep.....

I was trying to remember the nursery rhyme so thank you sue. I think there is another one mentioning a stile but the mind plays tricks at this age. I was surprised when judy said she had never head of a stile but  if you did not hear the nursery rhyme or lived in the country you would not know.  Interesting old word. I asked my DD 46 if she knew what a stile was and she looked at me like I was asking her so she carefully explained what it was to stupid old mum. I nearly spewed my champers in the pool I laughed so hard. Kids! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks girls, love the photos and it now explains what a stile is.  You might have to give up walking when you're in your 90's though CC, I can't see you swinging your leg over some of them then ;)
