Oh wowoweee!! Found daun kadok for the first time ever, since moving to Perth 7 years ago. Dropped by an Asian grocery store to buy basmati rice after pilates. And this plant was hiding amidst some lemon grass. Soooo excited! Visions of Penang otak-otak are floating around. But first, I've got to keep the baby alive 😁

Shopping this morning.  Mostly food and clothes for GS who is off to camp on Monday.  Only got the paper work yesterday. :-))  Seems the original paperwork went to his mother who didn't bother to pass it on.  >:(
The  man who said it can't be done should not interupt the woman doing it.

Okaaayyyy BZB, you are going to have to explain a little more about this plant of yours. I've never heard of it before! (and I thought I'd heard of a lot of things  ;D )

What do you use this for??

Ooh is it like betel leaf?

Nikkit I hope your horse is. What is that saying that you can lead a horse to water but not make him drink.  ;D ;D

Hally I managed to get DD and her friends seats in the 5 th row. She will be thrilled. I was ready and waiting at 9am.

You need to be up close as he is so little. I travelled with him once sitting  behind him and his head never cam above the seat!

Lucky you, Hally. Your DD is so blessed to have a mum like you, Cookie :)

Daun kadok is Malay term for Wild Betel leaves. Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piper_sarmentosum

These leaves can be found in the tropics. Used in Penang's unique Nyonya cuisine. Essential for 2  famous Nyonya dishes:

Otak otak - a fish custard. Delicate texture, creamy, very aromatic and thoroughly delicious

Perut Ikan - translated to "fish stomach" which sounds dodgy. It's a fish stew that's tangy and has fabulous balance of flavours. Very, very hard to find good ones. Probably due to the Nyonya people have dumped their aprons, which is sad. But there has been some revival of the culture in the last 2 decades.

Betel leaf is also considered to be an aphrodisiac.  Be careful ;D ;D

Chewing betel leaf is good for halitosis. Probably the chlorophyll.
