You are kind. Everyone up here (locals) is talking about it. It comes up stormy every afternoon like the beginning of the wet season, but it then dissipates. They say the evenings should be cooler and the days much less humid.
We leave on Monday morning so I mustn't complain.

Lovely photos cookie. Which way are you coming back home, the same way you went or a different route?

We are coming back down the Coast Judy, the same way we came. There is more phone coverage that way if the old car with us has a major problem.

Today we assemble the chook house, I hope. We have been putting the bits together from the flat pack.
Then I can order 3 new chooks to go with the 3 old girls.

How exciting Chookie, the girls from Cherokee will finally be able to join you.  How do new and old chooks get on?

Judy, you have heard about 'pecking order' . Well this came from chooks. We will introduce the new girls at night, this apparently helps. They will eventually sort them selves out.  We would never introduce just one new chook as the other would all pick on it. We will also give them lots to keep them entertained. I hang up a cabbage for them to peck or the green part of a cauliflower. Some people put a swing in the chook yard. Haven't done this yet.
Marina, we have had  ISA Browns in the past but Ral wants to try a new local breed which are similar. Hy Line.  They cost about $30 each, at point of lay. It would be cheaper to buy eggs but the fresh ones from our chooks are really so much better and we know what they get to eat. We also get lots of chook poo mixed with rice hulls which we put into the compost and on the garden.

What colour will your Hy Line chickens be Chookie.? The website I look on says there is a choice of four.

A bonus that you get free manure LOL

I have now 'baby sat' two lots of young chooks for our neighbour, until they were a bit older and could be introduced to his existing hens.  I think the first ones I had may have been Hy Lines, although I am not sure, the second lot I had were Isa Browns.  I have to say, the first ones had so much more personality and were great fun whilst the Isa Browns were more timid ... but they had less human interaction whilst they were with me so that probably explains it.  The last lot were good with helping me with the weeding, though and would have been more outgoing had I had them for another month or so before they went back home to my neighbour!

Marina, from what I have read, your experience is correct.
I find the Isas have plenty of personality and do lay a larger egg. We will see.

CC, what fun.  I don't enjoy shopping with DD or DS as they are always in such a hurry.  GD , Jilly is better company. She is prepared to look and poke around. We also share interests in cooking and craft.
