I’m sure numbers will be down though Chookie, I’ll be going to gym today but there’s always less there on really hot days. Enjoy your day.

Ordered some silver cleaning gloves from Amazon. They’re coming from England.

Did a big shop today , coming home realising that more of the mountains are on fire , a lot of billowing smoke . Just exhausting. DD home to help for a few days of shearing . We start tomorrow. So a quick morning tea had to be cooked .

We had our usual mixed car clubs coffee morning. I really enjoy them.

Went up to Guildford for our neighbour's mother's funeral.  Hot, but well attended.  A lovely send-off.

I had my hair cut today.  While I was at the salon I met a lady who I had not seen for several  years.  We had a lovely time catching up.
The  man who said it can't be done should not interupt the woman doing it.

Snap Margaret. I had my hair cut today. The salon informed me this morning that all card payment, including eftpos would incur a 1.59% surcharge. I paid cash.

Credit card surcharges are a real cost to businesses, but I believe that the charges laid on customers are inflated in many cases.  We do not levy surcharges at our shop nor do we include a surcharge percentage in the RRP of any of our items, i.e. we don't hike up the price of an item to cover these charges and we pay many hundreds of dollars every month to the bank in merchant fees, so I can understand why businesses have this surcharge.  HOWEVER, the percentage they charge does not necessarily reflect what the bank charges them to process the sale.  It is very complicated.  With us we have something like 10 different levels of charges, depending on the type of card presented, so it is hard to calculate what is a realistic percentage at the point of sale.  There is some legislation on how a business charges for a credit card but I do not think any one polices it.

I recently saw, probably an urban legend, a story about the value of cash vs card and it went along the lines of if you pay $50 cash for an item, the supplier has $50 to spend, the supplier then buys something for $50 and the next supplier then has $50 to spend and so on, whereas paying by card the supplier then has $50 less a merchant percentage for their next purchase and so it goes on to the next merchant with the original $50 having (theoretically) less and less value with each succeeding transaction - it is very interesting reading but I won't try to go further with the story because I will not be able to write it out clearly and will only succeed in confusing everyone.  The crux of the story is that the original $50 payment by credit card has less and less value with every succeeding card purchase, whereas the cash used for the original payment remains $50 ... does that make sense?

Having said all of that, I very much prefer to use cash but for larger purchases will revert to my credit card and, of course, you have no choice when making internet purchases.

Yesterday I helped first up in the wool shed then home to collect forgotten smoko cake ! Later on I help prepare food for tonight’s community event . Peeled top and tailed large onions. Cut up kilos of potatoes ! Shredded purple cabbage . Topped and tailed carrots to be grated . Drained cooled potato’s. My arm was sore . We are catering for about 150 people . Then home to finish off dinner . Too hot to prepare morning smoko . Today up to take muffins to shed and buy bread make toasties.

Chookie you will love it.
Marina I found your information interesting and informative, thanks.

Today I went and bought some flour for my bread making. I use Laucke bread flour as the base but like special flours from Risen Flour. https://www.risenflour.com.au/

Cooke , that flour company looks interesting. I also use Laucke as a base but like to experiment. I ground up lots of seeds recently and have been adding these to basic mixes. Amazing the difference it makes.
Katie , that’s a lot to cater for.
Family coming up from Melbourne today for lunch.
