Teacher's 1/2 day strike today - the school only gave us 24 hours notice so a lot of annoyed parents! My day off so no biggie, also took in 2 extra kids for my friend who has to work. Took the 4 kids to the park to meet up with other kids, and one of them spotted a snake in the sandpit! About 20 excited kids & horrified grownups watched this tiger snake slither through the playground before settling under some bush. Called the council, an hour later still no one came & we had to leave.
Just taken kids to school, now having some quiet time before I have to pick them up in 2 hours time. Then taking DD to the dentist, then come home to get ready for trick or treating.

Unfortunately no time off tomorrow. I'm a HR Manager for a large global company and I'm currently managing a global project which covers all of our global regions and is very intense until March next year. We are just ramping the project up so lots of phone calls and we have also lost some staff in some areas so having to take on extra other work to fill gaps. The late and early calls are the result of trying to speak with people in South America, London, Mongolia, Salt Lake city, vancouver and Melbourne. I ve had a couple of years off from managing this project and a little like childbirth, had forgotten how painful it can be!!! While they certainly get more than their fair share of my life, I've had some amazing experiences in parts of the world I would never have experienced, met amazing people, my family have had experiences we could never have afforded, I have flexibility I wouldn't find in many places and get paid pretty well so taking all things into account I'm certainly not complaining. To many outsiders and friends it does seem a crazy job though.

Amy, I certainly don't think of myself as overly smart - pretty average compared to many of the people I work with but I've always worked very hard at any job I've been given. As far as diplomatic, not to sure of that at the moment but I'm very laid back and try not to stress over what I can't control and am not precious about the jobs im prepared to do, people normally appreciate that in such a changable and challenging environment.
