Today I had 3 hours respite whilst the cleaner was here - a male cleaner this time who did a great job and was so bright and bubbly that I'm sure he made DH's day. It was so nice for him to have male company for a change whilst I went out with my list of things to do - I managed to get all jobs done bar one which I can do tomorrow locally so not a problem.

Home today after a couple of days at my Mum's. You know how you have it in your head all the things you want to do before you get somewhere? Kids and I discussing it all the way and then...we came across a 2 car MVA. We were first on the scene - well plenty of others had driven past, but no-one had stopped.  ???
Long story short - they were all ok. Some minor injuries from airbags, both cars totalled.
Not a good feeling when one lady was crying 'my baby' and I looked in the back of the car to see a baby seat upside down (not strapped in properly) but then finding out that the baby had just been dropped off at daycare. Whew! I'm ususally pretty cool calm and collected when the proverbial hits the fan, but wasn't too sure if I could have handled that scenario.
An off duty ambo stopped and helped - he was great.
Anyway - found out that the cops can take 40 minutes to get to a MVA when you tell them that it is on a major highway and traffic is slowed by it  ??? ??? and if you ever come across anything like this and the airbags have gone off then call for ambo's as well as even though 2 ladies told me they were all ok - they actually had minor chest pains and difficulty breathing. Geeze - and I'd asked them all those questions too - more than once.
So, by the time the police came and they said I could go I'd been standing in the sun for over an hour, so with no hat (I'd cleaned out the car that morning and taken my hat and brolly out  :( ) I was a bit sunburned and had a screaming headache. So the plans the kids and I had all went out the window and we went straight to Mum's.

The day ended nicer with us all going to a Brazillian BBQ restaurant for dinner - YUMMO!

What a good Samaritan you are Nikkit - amazing how people drive by, someone has to be the first to stop though to call for help and it was their lucky day when you just happened by.

Nikkit you must feel very good within yourself. I am so glad you stopped as the people may have needed you urgently. It could be any of us in those vehicles. You  are a lovely person.
We occasionally see things like that when we travel and I always feel very ill afterwards. I am ok at the time but ill when it is all over. When we were living in Carnamah we came across a roll over with 4 occupants in a tiny car, not a happy outcome for any of them.

Hugs and kisses to you Nikkit. Thank you from the car occupants and I hope they learn to secure the baby carrier.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

Thanks for the flowers Judy  :)
And thankyou everyone else.  :)

It is sad that no-one else stopped before me, the highway is so busy, so there would have been at least 10 cars go past before I got there. I didn't even think about anything really - just that there were 3 ladies out of cars and no-one else there, so it had only just happened about 30 seconds before I got there. Are we all so busy and in a hurry to get places that we can't stop to help someone in need?. We had plenty to do on the way - but they seemed to be not so important when we came across the accident.

Gert and Cookie - the bit that got me was the baby seat too - I really hope they take a good look at that.

If you have a baby or child in a car seat - please please please go out and double triple check that it is strapped into your car the correct way. There would have been no second chances for the child in this accident. There are places that can check it for you - do it.

I think it is time I did a full on first aid course. I have been involved in 3 "incidences" over the past year where I have helped. In all of them everyone else has had serious meltdowns (and been totally useless!) or been in shock and I have kept it together. (not too sure how though!) In saying that - I have had to call the ambulance, but none have involved anything gruesome. Best I not get too cocky - I might be the useless bystander if there's blood.
